The long awaited T608 will now be available for purchase with "Telesales" at 866-pcs-auto. I will make this review short and straight to the point.
First, many of you will not like the display because it is not TFT which makes it very hard to see outdoors. The battery life starts out weak but as you charge and use it the battery does get better.
The reception on this phone (I live in Chicago) is simply AMAZING!! I get FULL bars in places that my T-Mobile phone don't even work. As you may or may not know the T608 has a speaker phone which works okay but not the best. Let's just say I like the fact that it has it. I have used it many times but the sorroundings cannot be to noisy.
Now the reception for the use of a bluetooth headset is another story. I get alot of static when I use my Sony headset and the Jabra. It does not matter which models I tried them ALL. The good thing is that it seems to be a problem here in the Chicago land area only (or so far ONLY). Another fellow mentioned to me that his BT headset worked fine and at a good distance (I believe he lives in California).
The navigation is pretty much the same as the T68 accept for a few changes that I will let the pros review that. Now for my favorite part of the phone. This is the ability to use the phone with a PDA. Althought the reception is poor when using a BT headset (in Chicago) it is not poor at all when used with a pda. It works very well with the following pda's and of course pretty much all of them: Sony Ux-50, NZ90, TG50. Ipaq, every model that exists!
I have tested the speed comparing it with a T68 using T-Mobile. What I did was to login to www.shoutcast.com with both phones and using the 4300 ipaq. I changed the bitrates to 36K on the shoutcast website and the T68 using TM would NOT work at all. I also tried 28K and still the T68 with TM would NOT work. I than did the same thing with the T608 using both the 28K-36K and it played most all the websites just fine. Some websites would not play but most all of them did. I tried spanish music and high energy and the 70's 80's. I'm sure the rest of the variety of websites would work okay.
When used to browse websites like brighthand, pocket passion, pocketpcthoughts, pdaphonehome, davesipaq, some that I visist the web pages load pretty fast. Not lightning fast but so much faster than GPRS which T-Mobile uses.
And if you us ThunderHawk www.bitstream.com the speed is very fast!
So is this phone for you? Yes if you want a good solid phone that has really nice data speed. If you want a phone that does what the Motorola MPX200 is capable of doing than look away. If you are a phone/pda user and do a lot of surfing and email I highly recommend this phone and the 4300 ipaq (builtin keyboard is so nice).
Well, hope this quick review helped you to make a decision if you were looking for a BT phone to use with your PDA.
