check if its locked

Well, Inginious, it wasn't locked. But thank you for the response. What I forgot....in my initial panic.....was the golden rule of computers. REBOOT. So, I just did a soft reset and that fixed it. Now, the Sony recognizes the MS and all is well in that department.

But, I had a prior problem that is still unresolved....my MP3 player doesn't play songs. I should probably start a new thread with this, but I am too tired right now. If someone doesn't answer to the MP3 problem in this thread, I will start another later.

peace...

annie....you may want to try encoding the MP3s differently.

What proggie did you use to rip your CDs? If you downloaded the MP3s from the 'net, there's no telling how they're encoded.

Also, does it recognize that the MP3s there? If not, are they in the correct 'folder' on the memstick?

More details would be helpful, but that's all the suggestions I can think of for now.

also, I've heard the clie doesn't like VBR mp3s, you know the ones where you in winamp the bitrate will go from 256 to 112 to 64 to 128.... VBR is actually the way all mp3s (if you wanta know why, just ask =) should be, but if the clie has problems with it, then stay with constant ones (solid 128 or 192).

Any MP3 encoded with VBR or MP3-Pro, will NOT work on the NX.

Start with 96kbps or higher bite rate

44.1KHz sampling frquency

Copy protection OFF!

The hold switch on the remote is OFF too!

LFCM, what do you mean by encoding the MP3's differently? I followed the tip that Jim had on his site because I use MusicMatch to get the music from a CD I have at home.

They played yesterday. But today when I put 3 more on, I had no sound. So, I deleted the first group, but still no sound.

Yes, it recognizes the MP3's....the names of the MP3s are displayed in the AudioPlayer.

In the MS they are filed under Palm/Programs/MSaudio.

How do I find out if it is encoded with VBR or MP3-Pro? I have it set at 96kbps. I don't know where to find the 44.1KSz sampling frequency or the copy protection. The hold switch is off.

[STUPID QUESTION]
How is your sound level? (the button on the center of the status bar) if you have 'mute' checked, you won't have any sound... the mute checkbox is for the WHOOOOLE Clie, so if you need to mute the system sounds only, just slide the bars to the left...
[/STUPID QUESTION]

Once, I had a hard time finding why I couldn't hear music while it was actually played... and I consider myself a CLIE Pro... what a shame :o

I gave you the format in my previous post, Jim's tip was in transfering the files. Did you reinstall the original group? There may have been something in the second group that was corrupted. A soft reset won't hurt either.

They are found in the Music Match application under recording options. There is a whole bunch of options. Most should be the default, just double check the ones I gave you before you record anymore.

When you look up a mp3 file on the Clie by tapping on the double-note Icon before AVLS button, it will give some of the particulars.

It is working now!!!! I decided to do a hard reset, and carefully reinstalled my programs. I think something didn't play nicely with my other programs. But, now they all get along.

Thanks ,LFCM,nate and MythoFactory for all your help. And a special thanks to Larry for all your patience and help.

The hold switch on the remote is OFF too! Seriously? The NX can't play VBR? That sucks. Glad I kept my NR.

Yep, that's correct! Sorry, I ran into it when I moved to the NX from my NR. I had to redo my mp3's without VBR before I could use them on my NX.

Sony, keeps pushing it's proprietary ATRAC3 music format. This is evidenced by the introdution of new devices that no longer include mp3 playback. This is nothing new to Sony, as they started to grudgingly support mp3's because of lost sales in the past, as nobody wanted the ATRAC3 format, Sony's way of excersing control over you!

I am glad to hear you're backup and running! As I said, it's all to easy to corrupt the memory in these PDA's. Backups are most important, because when you least expect it... I know it's all Murphy Law's fault, but what can we do:D?

Your welcome, enjoy!

When you reboot a PC, it clears out all the memory and reloads everything form the hard drive.

A soft reset on a Clie doesn't do that. A hard reset does clear out all the memory, but then it has to be manually reloaded from a backup.
