Just got my Clie from my GF, seems like a neat toy, but I'm trying to figure out what to use it for.

What apps do you guys use (And please provide a description of what they do)? I checked the other thread, but a lot of people just listed the names of the apps, which does me no good without a nice detailed description.

I think I'm going to be using it for scheduling/task lists mainly, so if you know of any good software for that, that'd be great. I'm simple - I'd love to achieve the effect of the Outlook Calander/Task List. Which I think I can with the built-in software, but maybe there is much better out there?

I'm also thinking of using it as the grocery list function as well - that definetely seems nice.

For the grocery list, there's nothing better than HandyShopper - it's fully featured and FREEWARE.

Well you could always use it as a coaster:p
Seriously, check out DateBk5 at:

I think its great. Also check out Agendus which many people swear by.
Let us know and have fun!!

And by the way, both of those are Personal Information Managers - they basically keep track of appointments, to-dos and addresses.

And I agree with the Handyshopper recommendation. It's a wonderful app for lists/databases of all kinds. I keep everything on there from Gift lists for my kids, to housecleaning and home maintainence chores I need to do . . . I also have lists of various craft/art supplies and a list of plants I want to purchase for my garden in spring. It's VERY cool and completely free!!

ZLauncher - It just makes the whole thing much easier and nice-looking, and ZLQuickLaunch Hack is very useful... Several threads on how good it is on this board :)

Datebook - Personally, I don't think there's much need for either Agendus or Datebook if you have a Clié - It has a today page and that's the only real glaring fault of the pre-OS5 Datebook. I use Datebook to hold my university schedule, birthdays and other events.

ToDo - I use ToDo to hold a list of coursework I've yet to finish - This is handy combined with the Today page in Datebook.

MemoPad - To write memos/short notes... obvious

DiddleBugHR - To write hand-written notes - The latest RC of DiddleBug supports Sony HR, and OS5 high-res I think, so maybe no need, but I also like WindleBug as a desktop companion and I don't think that supports the latest Diddlebug

SlowLaunch hack - I use this to assign two apps to each of my hard-buttons... Very useful (for example, Memopad and DiddlebugHR on the memo button)

Mobile Office 2003 Standard - The synchronisation with Word isn't as good as the other major Office apps, but personally, I don't use it to synchronise documents with the desktop, I use it to create documents. Its speed and features are unrivalled in my opinion and it's the only document editor that allows me to insert pictures that I've drawn on the palm into the document. This makes it the only app I can really use to take notes during lectures (Using MemoPad/Diddlebug or WordToGo/DiddleBug doesn't really cut it for me)

EasyCalc - Use this as an alternative to the built-in calculator... It provides far more functions and beats it hands down - very useful during maths lectures and the like

FontHack123 - To replace the *awful* default Sony fonts (I use Lubak's SanSerif 22/22B fonts or OS5 fonts (experimenting at the moment))

Plucker - Brilliant free application for synchronising web-pages offline on your palm. Beats AvantGo hands-down, although it's slightly slower (the palm application is much slower, but it's also much better, so fair exchange) - Very useful for keeping manuals on your palm.

and recreation:

AudioPlayer - For listening to mp3s whilst travelling (I don't use a PDA for the sake of using a PDA, so any ocassion where it's ok to listen to music and I'm working as well, I have access to a PC or laptop)

Memoru - Nice image-editing app. Not as good as Mobile Paint 2003/2004 for the most-part, but quicker to use, affords more screen real-estate and its primary storage is .bmp files - which is nice

Patience Revisisted 2.6.2 - Contains several variations of Patience.. I mostly play Eight Off because it's like FreeCell, but a fraction as taxing :)

Bejeweled - Brilliant puzzle game

Phoinix - Free Gameboy emulator - 'nuff said :)

I use plenty of other apps of course, but those are the ones I use on a regular basis... I think... hehe

It would help if you told us the model. Some have different packaged software add-ons.

Look thorougly through the CD. If its an NX, you should find Documents to Go, PowerOne Calculator and a few other neat toys you can add on.

Go to PalmGear.com and get a copy of InWatch before you start experimenting too much. Just about every software thingy you install will leave virtual breadcrumbs on your Clie that won't go away by themselves. InWatch will help you keep track and uninstall the software you decide not to use and clean up the crumbs left behind.

PBM, you forgot doorjamb... -)

I've seen folks purchase PDAs on impulse and never make use of them.

When I got my first one, I was thrilled at getting rid of my agenda book. It was wonderful having all my info with me all the time. What a liberating feeling to not have to remember plans and schedules.

Nowadays, PDAs do just about whatever a PC can. So whatever your job, hobbies, entertainment or communication needs, there are apps to help you.
