One of the things that ZL isn't capable of doing that I miss from both MegaLauncher and Silverscreen is the ability to change icons to a custom icon. Granted, you can change the system icons to a set of custom ZL Icons, but why can't you change any icon you wan to?

This is very minor, but it is one more way to customize your launcher that I enjoy.

All in all, I am still VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY pleased I paid the $12 to buy ZL. Worth EVERY penny!

The following is a blatant plug :D

ZL does have the ability to replace any icon using an iconset, but it works differently than ML or Silver Screen. In ML or SS you use an "iconpack" and then inside the program, you assign one of the icons to your program.

The disadvantages of doing it this is way are:
1) If you upgrade a program, you have to reassign the icon.
2) At least in ML (probably also in SS) if you want to change to a different iconpack, you also have to reassign the icons.

With the ZL iconset, program associations are stored inside the iconset. This fixes the above problems, but creates different ones.

1) It’s difficult to create the iconset because you need to setup the Creator Ids and then put them in the correct order in hexadecimal inside the iconset.
2) Since there are so many different Palm programs, a distributed iconset is likely to have a lot of program icons you won’t use, and not have a number of them you want.

Anyway….. That’s the reason I wrote ZL Iconset Factory (ZLIF). It automates the process of creating a “personalized” iconset. ZLIF scans your Palm Desktop folders each time it’s run and adds the programs you have installed to its database. The programs it can’t find this way can be added easily. Then you can:

1) Open an existing iconset and quickly remove or add icons for the programs you have installed.
2) Create a new iconset from scratch (also supports using templates of your favorite programs.)

ZLIF also supports drag and drop / copy and paste, so you can copy and paste from a paint program, or using my free PalmBMX program, grab icons from other iconsets, or ML and SS iconpacks.

ZLIF uses my own Palm resource compiler and supports all of the Palm compression schemes. It doesn’t use “rcp” files, so there’s no need to manually edit anything. It even picks the transparent background colors for you automatically.

As I said, this is a “plug” ZLIF isn’t free because it was such a large development project, but it’s pretty cheap at $5.

However, the demo version will allow you to create iconsets with 3 program icons and any of the ZL system icons.

I'll give it a try. I've always liked your programs. Quality stuff!

I can vouch for ZLIF. It is simple to use and is more than worth the five dollars. As an example of what this program can do, you can look at several of the icon sets I have created here (http://pdashine.lesliefranke.com/ebooks/pafiledb.php?action=category&id=11) .

I tried to get festus to charge $49.99 for it (snicker snicker)..... Really though... ZLIF is worth way more than $5 for the cost. It is awesome. One reason I never even got into iconsets .... was because it was too cumbersome. Some people have the patience .. and doing hex-code values etc .... but I sure didn't. Absolutely beautiful program to use!!!!!!!! a must have for all ZL users!
