Hello all,
I’m a UX newbie – I just ditched my IPAQ 5400 because I got tired of having to carry a sleeve and various cards – depending on the functionality I wanted at the time. At the time of purchase, I was extremely satisfied with the UX. As usual I quickly depleted the memory on the handheld – then went out and purchased a 128mb memory stick (purple). I then found out about atrac3 (??) which should have a smaller foot print per song (ala .wma files). Sonic Stage kept giving me an error saying the media is unsupported. So I then when out and purchased a 256mb memory stick pro (whitish) – and guess what – same error!! What’s the deal?? Does the media support the format?? Does Sonic Stage support memory stick pro?? Did I just get suckered?? I’m pleased with the UX – just want to find a more efficient way to carry my music with me.
Thanks for any info.

I believe I've read that the MS Pro sticks don't support MagicGate at this time.

I don't bother to use attrac...
Why not use MP3 format straight away rather than changing Memory Sticks to cater for attrac files?

Atrac files are supposed to have a smaller footprint - right? That way I can fit more on the memstick. Anyways, MagicGate is supposed to support atrac files. For now, I will cram as many mp3 on the memstick as I can.

Yes - attrac files are smaller in size...

OK, I think I found the official scoop on this issue ~ Sony states that,
"The Memory Stick PRO media format integrates new technologies and features in regard to capacity, speed, real-time recording and data security. Memory Stick PRO™ and MagicGate™ Memory Stick media are the only types of media that support the MagicGate copyright protection technology, which enables a user to record, transfer and store secure digital content."
"Sony® SonicStage™ and OpenMG™ Jukebox applications are not yet compatible with the Memory Stick PRO format."
So I guess that's that...and I have to wait till they update SonicStage.

The MS Pro sticks do support the MagicGate technology, it is the proprietary software that Sony uses for it they don't support. You can find out all you want to know (and more) about memory sticks at www.memorystick.com (http://www.memorystick.com/)

I had it with SONY I just bought the Memory Stick Pro Magicgate which Sony says you have to have to transfer music from SonicStage and I still get the same error, Inserted media cannot be used for Checking-Out Songs. What a bunch of *(&() I think I will talk to my attorney and see what can be done. If you tell your customers this is what you need then make sure it works for them. GET THE UPDATE ON YOUR WEB SITE SONY!!!!!!!!
I know you can move files from over to import and export but I didn't buy 2k machine along with all the special software hardware to have to make things work...it should work.
