Well...which one do you want to do? You can turn the screen off by using "HOLD" which is located on the side of the Clie, however with the "hold" on, you can't access other apps. You can enable "background play" which would let you listen to your mp3's while you use other applications. To enable the background, go to Audio player, then go to the menu and select options, you'll see preferences and you can check or uncheck the background play. Hope this helps...

Yeah, but now just wait until you turn it on then forget: and freak when it "doesn't work".

You can hold the power button in and just turn off the backlight which will save a lot of bat. life. This way you will not forget and leave it on.

The hold button does more than just turn the screen off. I believe that it also turns off the CPU and disables all buttons, including the power button, from activating the device. That all saves significant power, especially turning off the CPU.
I use my hold button whenever I put my T665C in my front pocket to keep the buttons from turning it on--like StayOffHack in hardware. Works like a charm.

That is a good suggestion Tanker..I never thought of that. I have always use two button hack to prevent accidental "turn on" which drain battery when i put my clie in my backpack. I read in some thread that someone turn the "HOLD" button and forgot about it. She was frustrated that the hot synch was not working when she place the CLie on the cradle and thought the battery was corrupted....What I did was showed the blank screen to the air stewardess when she asked me to turn off my Clie during takeoff while I enjoy my MP3. I fooled her...

I hope I won't be flying in the same plane with you. ;)

On the serious note, do you guys believe a PDA would interfere with the communication device in the pilot cabin ?? There are many airlines now are putting network in their Biz and First Class seat so that you can surf and receive e-mail, sms whille you are way above the ground. Also a new development is a wireless network.

Not at the power levels involved in personal electronics. I've used PDAs and laptops in the cockpit itself with no problems. Older analog cell phones might cause problems with some equipment with their higher power levels, but not newer digital phones. I think the airline policies have more to do with idiot lawyers than science or engineering.

Bush said the same "idiot lawyers" are pushing the cost of medical care in America. We never have that problem here in the East Asia. A good friend of mine in Salt Lake spent US$2.5m every quarter to defend himself being sued by the big boys in the industry who have 400 "in-house" legal counsel...not to mentioned those law firms working for the big boys. Anyway.... listening to MP3 or playing games in my Clie reduce tension during take-off and landing which is the most dangerous of flying, and i am flying every 3 days.

President Bush is absolutely right about the idiot lawyers. I'll save my soap box for OT, but just look at what happened to PalmGear. Today in the US it's easier to make money by litigating as opposed to innovating.
I wouldn't worry about flying. I flew myself several times a week, sometimes multiple times a day, for over 20 years. Now I fly commercial now about every two weeks. It really is the safest mode of travel--safer than walking down the street. Relax and enjoy. Besides, nobody lives forever. :D
