View Full Version : Photo blogging -- with video...

I just started using TextAmerica (http://www.textamerica.com) last week. For those that don't know, this is a web blog with photos. Take a photo, email it to your site address, and it is displayed.
But yesterday they made some changes. While they are still having problems getting all the web code to route correctly, as well as deleting Lord of the Ring snapshots that people are posting despite instructions NOT to, they have made some changes that are beneficial...
First I found that they are showing quiktime videos... though they had been doing only cell phone types. I read on their website that they were doing .MOV types now too. So I renamed my .MQV file to .MOV and sent it in this morning as a test. It is displaying on my photo blog now. I don't know what their limit is going to be on usage, and they are supposedly pre-screening the videos...
Question: I had to do the renaming process on the PC. Is there a way to rename a MQV file on the CLIE directly so that it could be transmitted directly from the CLIE Mail to their site? Or is the PC going to be an intermediate step?

You should be able to do it in Filez or McFile.

I'm going to try Filez -- I see it is free and have heard of it before...

Hey Omnitron,
I was wondering how you got your textamerica account to work. Mine (debug.textamerica.com) was working fine until the move and now it gives me a message about some Links token being deleted.
This is the actual message.
This white box is here becuase you removed the [$links] token. To get rid of this box, re-enstate the [$links] token
Any ideas?

It is having different results , depending upone when you go to it. I was getting that yesterday.
I did go to mine and go through the template selection stuff several times. For some reason it was pulling up some other links then mine originally? And I still don't see how on the new webpage you set Favorites...
I think they are pulling some stuff from the old site and some from the new. Porting everything over is supposed to be done by the end of the day today.
For a while today my site showed only new stuff. Then briefly it had the template and no photos. Then it had the photos and no template graphics. It still seems to be coming up like that.
I'd hold tight until tonight and see what develops.

I don't know... that's up to them. I know they pre-screen the stuff, that's all.
Everyone lost their link token--- when they were re-routing everything I don't think all the data was in one place... the photos were here while the style info there... I think they are SLOWLY transferring everything to the new location -- they just aren't done yet... If you go and look on your account - edit entries -- you will see your images --- even if the page itself is down. At least that was my experience
Anyone setting up a NEW one should be fine, although some of the stuff from a detailed template may not show for a day.
I had to put some of my links back in-- I only had a couple lines of experimental custom HTML code, so I'm not losing much. But I'm not sure if they are done resetting everyone. According to their Discussion forums, they are supposed to be done tonight. We'll see..
I also noticed that some of my latest images show larger than the older ones... clipping them slightly on one side. No explanation...

Were you able to get Filez to change the file extension? I installed it and could not figure out how to change from a MQV to MOV.

You have go to View and Edit files --- highlight the file to change on the file menu, select DETAILS, and change it there... IT works!

Very strange....Details does not let me change the name or extension. I am running Version 4.0.1. Is there a newer version?

That's a lovely holiday greeting Omni -- I was touched :). And impressed. thanks for the info on TextAmerica, I'll have to set up an account now. There's still no charge for all this multimedia goodness?

Nope -- just the google ads at the side...
They do have some rules on what you can post --- which mainly are legal/privacy based common sense stuff. No pictures of patients in hospitals period (thanks to new HIPAA rules), no pictures of movie screens (Though more than a handful of Lord of the Ring stuff is sneaking through thanks to them being busy with server/switchover issues -- they do warn "Please do not post images taken of film screens inside movie theatres as they will be deleted - thanks" ), shots of copyrighted images you don't own, etc.
They aren't through with the switchover -- there still seems no way to set Favorites, and the HTML code modification screens show none of the normal code that you would be intermingling your customizations with... If I read one msg right, maybe by this afternoon. Obvioulsy they bit off more than they could chew. ( I wonder if doing it around the holiday season with everyone posting holiday pictures was a good idea...)

FileZ allows you to change the filetype, but ClieMail only allows you to insert .MQV or picture files. It won't recognize the .MOV when you go to insert them...
Anyone know a way around this???

iambic Mail or Mark/Space Mail should be able to attach files regardless of the extension.

Nothing so far...
I posted on their board about the issue -- no word yet. It should be easy enough for them to accept MQV files --- or rename themselves to MOV when they arrive. At least you would THINK that...
I'll have to look into iambic Mail -- I've been meaning to upgrade Agendus anyway... Looks like it will be the Pro package...

It looks like Agendus mail which is part of Agendus Pro, which I can get on the upgrade price of $20 is sufficient. Hitting two birds with one stone.
I was able to send a test file to my yahoo account, after renaming it. FileZ or ClieFiles can be used to rename the .MQV extension, or the name And extension. Agendus mail can then send it...
Looks like I'm in business! And tomorrow is a christmas party... :)
