hi, i'm thinking of getting this baby, i just want to know how long can you surf the net with wifi?? i know there's an entended battery but i want to know how good it is straight out of the box. thanks. :)

according to sony it's about 4.5 hours, but that's with the min brightness setting. anyone can tell me how long it lasts with the max brightness and wifi turned on?

Not too long I'm afraid.. :-) I can't tell you exact because I just have it for a couple of weeks now and already ordered the extended battery because I use wifi fairly often. I can tell you so much, if you check your emails every hour you'll have no problem, but when you plan on surfing like with a PC your battery will drain pretty fast and you'll better keep the powercord in reach.

with power saving on are those 4 hours stated by sony quite realistic. but without it, UX hold charge only for like 2 hours. I'm also thinking of the external battery.

I've done THAT much web wi-fi surfing since they changed the wifi access at work... But i was able to get a couple hours from the core unit. I've gotten the battery since then, and I should be able to get twice to three times that.

Typically I get about 3hrs surf time with just the base battery. My problem is I usually listen to MP3's while I surf, which kills the battery in about 1.5hrs. I purchased the Extended battery (EBP)so now I really don't notice any issues, I drain the primary battery surfing/listening. Then add the EBP when my main is at about ~15%. I can go 5+hrs with this method.

If you plan on frequent web surfing the EBP is a must!

Turning down the brightness helps TREMENDOUSLY while surfing.

I use full brightness and get about the same as everyone else, 1.5 Hrs. The extended battery does add a lot of bulk to the unit, but on the plus side, it improves the ergonomics greatly IMO.

With brightness on Min, I can even see. When the brightness on middle, I can see but I love the way its so bright when on full so I just keep it at full.
