Yes, you can Hotsync over IR. You just need to change the setup in the Hotsync app on your PC to IR and on your Clie go into the Hotsync app and change the Cradle/Cable setting to IR to a PC/Handheld

How does IR speed compare to USB speed? (non 2.0, unfortunately)

I'd say it's too slow to use for normal use, but if your using it with a laptop on the go, it's probably quicker and easier than having to bring a cable and fiddle with that.

ir is still slower than USB1.1.

Try using WL100 or WL110 to hotsync...might be better.

IR Hotsync is way too slow, especially when the clie is doing backups. Also, you can't use MSImport over IR.

If you are trying to avoid carrying a cradle along, get a Belkin cable instead of depending on IR Hotsync. It doesn't take up too much space in your laptop bag, especially if you use velcro cord keepers to manage the cord menagerie.
