So, I'm in hospital for a routine overnight treatment..
I spend an hour writing a blog entry..

I think to myself.. "hey, wouldn't it be great if the hospital have WIFI? Maybe they do! I'll do a scan!" PLINK.. Resets.. White screen.. network lights blink. Resets again. repeat, forever.. I could get it to ask to erase all data, but it just reset instead.. Fortunately i backed up a little earlier in the hospital.. Which is flukey because it's only the second time I've used the backup memory. :D

I left it for the batteries to run down, put it in cradle once home this morning, and now it's fine.. Basically though the same problem I had when i froze at the Palm Powered screen - and the same solution in the end..

I know this has happened to a few people here too.. A little awkward.. Given it's so infrequent and potentially not damaging if you backup frequently, I'm guessing it's not reason enough for a replacement.. Maybe it's some of the beta software I use etc.. It's a bit hard to diagnose this stuff!

Anyway, it left me lying in hospital all night - Failing to write any more novel and just playing Final Fantasy Tactics on the GBA instead.. CURSE YOU UX50.. ;) No, I love it really and this is the first time it's done it in the field of duty.. But still.. If it does it any more I might end up being of the opinion it wasn't *quite* ready for market.. Though that's no compliant - it's pretty bleeding edge I guess. ^^

Has anyone else who had this happen once or twice before had it happen again?

I thought pda's, cell phones were not supposed to be used in Doctor clinics and Hospitals? Because of interference with their equipment etc? I did read an article where the Wifi interfered with microwaves...

Cell phones aren't supposed to be used (apart from in medical emergency).. Nothing about PDAs.. they don't say you can't use PDAs anyway, and didn't comment when I was using it for ages in a ward full of people and instruments.. I checked addresses and stuff they asked for on it when they came to greet me after admission.. So they obviously didn't think it a problem. :)

I hadn't really thought of that though, maybe medical instruments were interfering with my Clie! Stupid hospital! ;) lol.. Nah.. It was working fine until I did a wifi scan. Hehe.. And other people have had the same happen to them.. Well, similar, with the crash and having to run down batteries.

Many hospitals have their own WiFi networks for busy doctors, nurses and staff to get patient information, file reports, write prescriptions, etc. I would assume then that the frequency used is not a danger to any of their equipment. Cell phones may be a problem, but they are so annoying in busy places that it's not a bad idea to ban them anyway.

Getting back to the original question, I have gone through the infinite reset/forced to run the batteries down problem once. It never appears to happen in any consistent way. It must be low level software related I would think. The message is to backup often. I'm waiting to get my UX50 back from Sony repair. Took it in yesterday for an LCD replacement to fix the 'whinning' noise problem. No guarantees. Just found out via IVR they finished the repair. Going through "quality assurance". Hope to get it back tomorrow. Will report back.
