We all know Apple is working on a new PDA. I think it's safe to assume Apple’s new PDA will be every bit as cool as anything Sony has designed. In my experience Apple has excellent customer support and listens to the needs of their users.
So here is my question: Given Sony's lack of consideration to it's users, no Compact Flash drivers, slower CPU for the $$$ etc…
Would you switch to the new Apple PDA if it turns out to be as cool as anticipated?

I would love to see one hit market. What are the current rumors and how real are they?

Apple is strict with their security and while it is known that something is in development no details have been officially released.

This is the first I've heard (recently) that Apple is working on a new PDA. Where did you see those rumors?

i couldn't vote unless i knew what os it would use, whether it would be windows compatible, price range (apple is a little overpriced, if you ask me), and when it was being released.
if all of those answers were sympatico to me, i'd absolutely get one... great designers.

I HOPE NOT.. I wonder if they'll shrink their 12" powerbook...
BUT I bought my NX hoping Apple WOULD NOT have a PDA in a near future... if they do... *what to do, what to do*

I'm down with boognish...I mean VicAjax. An apple PDA would no doubt be a solid piece of hardware. As long as it compatible with the way I work ie in a predominantly pc world, I'd get one.

There have been and continue to be rumors. The demand seem to be there, we will have to wait and see.

True, apple was once overpriced even though they had the serious components to back it up, but they've gone done in price over the last 12 months. If you ever wanted to buy a kick a@@ system from apple, now is the time. ;)

Err, that Wired article is from 3 years ago =) Before the bubble collapsed, back when companies were able to innovate.. now the only ones who can innovate into completely theoretical markets are Sony, that's about it - they got cash to burn. Not so much for Apple... though I'd love to see an Apple PDA, of course. But do note how old those rumour articles are. :)

Yeah, probably also the most expensive PDA ever to be seen as well.

Apple PDA? Never happen. I'm a Mac fan, but I don't think Apple wants to dilute their bottom line with yet another product line.

Two of your links are articles two or more years old. With the overall PDA market declining 13% last year, I don't see Apple committing any resources to launching a PDA anytime soon.

It is always possible, but based on Steve Jobs recent comments about PDAs being dead ends and the world moving to smart phones, don't hold your breath.
A much better rumor that I heard last week is that Apple is going to release a rebranded version fo the Sony-Ericsson P800 cel phone, possibly with Apple software as the iPhone.
This is not a rumor from inside of Apple (There are no rumors inside of Apple - I asked), but from a very well connected outside source.
maybe its just me, i do think that the Zire looks somehow like an Apple's product... well ... a tiny bit..

That Apple PDA looks really really slick, however that was 2 years ago and still nothing from Apple. I could see them coming out w/ something but definitely not before the NZ, and my heart is really set on the NZ.

Here's a twist. If Apple does design a PDA, do you think it will have the Palm OS? I sure as heck think it will, because they would be stupid not to release such a device. I'd love to see it, and I'm sure it would be made to compete directly with the Sony models. Expect an MP3 player, awesome LCD screen, and features galore.

I know people have already commented on this, but if Apple made a PDA, it would be expensive. Look at what PDA were dealing with, SONY. One of the most expensive PDAs on the market... You're paying for quality when you pay more for Apple products or SONY PDAs.
I've been hearing PDA rumos for 2 years now. If Apple did release one, GOODBYE SONY!!!
The iPod has some simple PDA features. You can export your PALM calendar to it an some other thingy maggigies like that.
Forget the PDA, I want a Tri-Corder.

I dont care what anyone says I am going to stick with sony. I dont like mac computers so I probably wont like their pdas either. You guys can say whatever you like but unless apple comes out with a pda with a 10 megapixel camera, at least a gigahertz processor and at least 100 megs of ram I am sticking with sony.

I've heard about the rumors, too, but it was at least *two years ago,* and if Apple is really going to release another Newton, they won't take two years to make one considering their huge hardware engineer department.
Also, I thought Apple has officially declined such rumors a year ago, so there is no need to bring this up again.

The pda market is different han the mp3 market: hardisc + decoder = mp3 player. So, I don't think apple will have an easy time breaking into it. They would have to commit too many resources to R&D to keep up with the likes of sony.
