View Full Version : Is your UX screen too small?

This may be really retarded, maybe no one will do it either but.... anyone want to trade a UX50 for a NX70. I hear a lot of people complaining about their screen is too small, and the lack of support of the landscape mode. I've had my NX70 for 2 months and it's time to upgrade. Along with the NX70 I will throw in the Bellagio Leather case, GC-10, and Wi-Fi card. Original box and documentation included for the NX-70 is also included. The other items I am including do not have the original boxes but are mint condition.

I don't think anyone right in their head would trade. If the NX was at least a current model, but NX70's batteries with heavy use are probably starting to die already. Also, how would u actually conduct the trade? Still, nothign stops you from asking.

After two month's the batteries are starting to die? Is that what you meant? The batteries are fine, and have only gotten better after many discharges and recharges. The actual trade is the tricky part...

Hasn't the NX70 been discontinued for more than 2 months already? The nx60 was discontinued in May.
heh let us know if you succeeded :-) UX50 is smaller, more powerful, very very pocketable. way better keyboard. hm has got wifi & bluetooth. 29mb flash. hm hm I don't see the point downgrading to NX70 even after 10 beers (or 20 US "beers" like bud :-)

Of course you can trade me, let me just meet you in my dreams and we'll finish this deal :).
Hehe, but seriously, I think I'll keep my mini-screen UX. :) If I am meant to go blind, then I'll go blind happily by the UX :D

I am also pretty interested in a ux50 for $20! As an alternative, I checked on ebay and nx70's are going for around $230 used, so thats always an option and pay the difference.

Free? I'm just wondering how. If it sounds illegal or too risky I'll forget about it.

Here in germany we dont steal Clies, we buy them at ebay!
And if u want a Clie for free, become a Product tester of sony or
something else.
Or... wait until a UX will fall out of a truck trailer;)

Why in my right mind would I sell my 512 MS, that would be like someone trading a UX50 for a NX70. LMAO. I am throwing in some extra goodies if anyone still wants to do it.

Im going to hold on to my NX70. The first bid the current auction is at 202.50 and the BIN is 538.00. The second one is a complete scam and they are only selling info where I can go somewhere else and buy a UX50. Ultra do you own a UX50?
Ultra SJ22

NO.... (I wish I did)
But I am saving up to buy one soon...
Who doesn't dream with a UX?

Hey Joel, How are you. Im honored to have you view my post and answer the question of an inquiring CS member.
You're welcome. :) BTW, I still use my NX70V together with my UX50. The funny thing is, now I find the text and icons in the NX70V too large! LOL.

Ditto.
Oh.... Thanx, Ive been wondering about that, because I like the color on the UX40 better and did not know wich to buy.
You're welcome 2. ;) Read up on the whining sound problem of the UX. Mine has it already... I'm hoping Sony would acknowledge this and offer a fix similar to what they're doing with the TJ35. I'm also curious about what the next Clie is going to be... so if you can still hold on to your present Clies, January's a few weeks from now.... Sony *might* make an announcement by then.

What's the DPI difference of the two?
DPI's the same for the NX and UX but the physical screen size is different. This makes images smaller but more detailed-looking in the UX.
Spiral
12-14-2003, 07:57 PM
Actually the DPI is different, because of the physical screen size difference. NX and UX both have the same number of dots, pixels (153,600) but the NX has a larger screen, so it's DPI is lower.

My old Palm IIIe did this when it was backlit......
But it seems to vary from UX to UX.....
But I wonder if this counts for the UX40....
Or should I wait for the UX80???

Okay, then what is the physical dimensions of the two screens? (in inches)
Spiral
12-14-2003, 08:14 PM
3.5 inches for UX, and 3.8 for NX. I'm not completely sure about the UX though. It doesn't seem like much, but i think it's something like...70-80% of the screen are. My friend has one, and I thought it was a pretty small screen, the fonts and the black border don't help.
NX has 3,8" and UX has got 3,25" ..

I've never managed to actually hold a UX50and before I bought my NX70 I've never held that either I just seen a lot of pics and read the dimensions. I think I'll go to Comp USA and check it out so I can see what you are talking about. That will be insane though because the NX70 already has such a beautiful screen.

So I think what you guys are saying is the NX has 150 dpi while the UX has 165 dpi. Wow. The high-resolution screen I will be getting for my computer (an awesome 19") will have only 133 dpi-and that's hign for monitors.
Yup. Got confused about what DPI actually means. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that the NX80 screen is a lot brighter compared to the one on the NX50!

The must have cure for the small UX screen size, is Fonts4OS5. This overrides the terrible Sony default fonts that make the screen hard to read. After applying this, I never think about the screen size anymore.

In the last three months I've used a Tungsten TC, a Sony NX80 and now the UX50.
I originally wanted a UX but second guessed myself into an NX80 from initial reviews of the UX. The NX seemed like a great machine at first for my needs, but the size and less than great keyboard had me longingly looking at the wife's TC until I convinced her to switch out with me.
I really enjoyed the keyboard, amount of memory and processor speed on the TC. But again, with a case, the unit just seemed too big to comfortably carry around. I still have memories of my VX in a small Rhinoskin case that seems to me the perfect size for a PDA.
Well, after a few more weeks of thunking, I decided to go back to square one and buy a UX. I'm very glad I did. With the addition of the Font package and Codedriver, I think the screen is perfect given the overall size of the PDA. I also like the keyboard and the builtin Wifi seems to have a better range than the TC.
For me, the UX is as close to *perfect* as I can find in the Palm world (tried PPC, no thanks).
So, in conclusion, after much rambling, I think the screen is just right.

I have a cure, the huge screen on my NX-70. Since I'm a nice guy I'll trade you the whole unit not just the screen for the small price of, hmmmm I dunno, your... UX50!

You all should be happy. I had to pay 200 dollars more to have my ux as in Brazil there are lots of importing tax. Other way is to buy through people that sell with no warranty and there is always the risk of loose all the investment. But we have beautiful beaches, anyway.
