Is anyone out there doing peer-to-peer connections using the Adhoc (vs. Infrastructure) mode? What's your experience like and did you have to do anything tricky to make it work (a la the "!!" w/ wireless hotsync)?
Further, what can you do with it - you can't very well map a drive...?

I don't know of anyone who actually has the Adhoc feature working using the Clie. This is not to say it isn't possible, but I don't remember seeing anyone having it work.

I too am unable to get Ad Hoc to work. I am able to get a "CONNECT" , however, when I try to hotsync, nothing happens. I have no problem wirelessly hotsyncing in infrastructure mode. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

When connected using Adhoc mode, does your PC register the CLIE as a node on the network? I'm interested in knowing what the CLIE-specific advantages/uses are of a P2P/adhoc connection.

Building off of clie_wannabe's experiences, I went to find a way to do this with Windoze 2000 and found mostly success:
I managed to get WAN & Hotsync to work with Win2k in an office (DHCP) setting (no Wireless Access Point). The config looks like this:
laptop:
1)Ethernet cxn to LAN, configured to use my Wi-FI card for Internet Connection Sharing.
2)Wi-Fi card set to Adhoc w/ a static IP
CLIE: Wi-FI card with the following network settings:
SSID: Any
WEP: None
ConnectMod: Adhoc
ch: 5
IP: 192.168.0.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (the wi-fi card in the laptop)
DNS: <real DNS server IPs>
PowerSaveMode: Disabled
With this config I can hotsync, run CLIE Mail, and AvantGo (no proxy specified). My only outstanding issue is that AIM 1.1 doesn't seem to support proxy servers, so it can't resolve the AIM server. Verichat also fails to connect to the AIM proxy.
Any ideas on the AIM issues?

open a command prompt first, then type the 'ipconfig' command.
In order to define an IP address, however, you need to go to your Network settings, then edit the Properties of your network adapter (NIC). Once you're there, modify the Settings for the TCP/IP protocol that's associated with that network adapter.
Feel free to utilize Windows Help as much as necessary.
