Hi Guys and Ladies,

I bought a NX 70-V to replace a tied & true Palm III. Ah, battery life has not progressed, has it? Mine lasts about one day... Yikes!

Well, I wanted to add a GPS unit to this buying a BC-307 CF GPS thinking, Great! tool. PDA AND Laptop ( with slot converter), how cool. Now stop laughing. Ok, anyone got a lead on a Clie CF/GPS driver? Will the NX 80 work with the 307 unit? Someone spoken of "pelaca" as working on the solution, so who is this person or company?

Drtamil: Does your setup work with voice prompts/directions? For my unexperienced view trying to look at a PDA screens while driving is not the best use of technology. Has anyone cured the sound/voice problem with the Clie?

Questions, Questions... you can tell this guy is new to this! (Wink)

there are no cf gps drivers for palm os.

your options are - bluetooth gps receiver (and you buy a bluetooth m/s)

- serial port cable to "mouse" gps

- serial port cable to standalone gps

To the best of my knowledge, there is no GPS option for an NX70 that provide voice prompting. Sony's only cradle which does provide voice prompting is not compatible with the NX70. Mapopolis with any of the myriad of BT/serial GPS doesn't support voice prompting on the NX70 due to sounds API issues.

Actually the voice prompts work their just difficult to understand (sony did release an api for 8khz).

The Malaysian maps (http://www.palmx.org/detailnews.asp?id=40) (free, basic, limited to major towns) will only work with Mapopolis 5.19 or earlier. It doesn't work with Mapopolis Navigator, therefore voice prompt is not an option available to us.

Well, thank you one and all for your input. As you may come to understand I am a very pragmatic individual in regard to solutions. To that end with the GPS I may be helping the CLie CF GPS situation in a big way ( Check the CF forum ) and perhaps a solution is in the works.

Drtamil thank you for your tested and documented setup. It will most likely be my second choice if the CF driver does not come about. Your solution is independent of PDA type and can also be used with a laptop so it has merit.

The Mapopolis serial mouse setup is interesting but again with the Clies there is no voice prompting. All of this reminds me of Apple when it first came out with excellent features but all proprietary. You would think Sony would wake up after the Beta Max, again great technology but limited in scope and would open the box for others to see how it works.

Thank you one and all. And I promise to read more of the current posts for information first.
