Hi, I am presently a Jornada 568 user, but I bought a Clie NR70V, and I am considering coming over to the "light side". I am on day 5 of 10-day evaluation, and I am leaning toward keeping the Clie, and dumping my Jornada. Has anybody else here been through this decision recently?

My primary use of the PDA is as follows:
1) Read work E-mails (with *.doc, *.xls, *.ppt attachments) - I get 30 or so per day. Have to forward and reply to a few. I also have Docs to Go v5 for evalution- and it is a must if I keep Clie. Main problem with PPC I have is e-mail attachment synching is crap - unusable.
2) Occassional use of excel and Word forms. Hi-res full screen viewing of excel worksheets is excellent. PPC not very good at highest zoom.
3) PIM functions - I have Desktop to Go on evaluation as well.
4) MP3 - I am planning to get a 256MB MS if I keep the Clie.
5) Avantgo - a must - although I use custom pages of BBS's like this, and they look pretty garbled on Palm OS.

Based on my needs, is there anybody with words of warning before I jump over to Clie?

Just so you know, you can't use the new MS Pro 256MB stick on the NR70V, you'll have to buy the newer dual-side stick thats coming out, or buy 2 128MB sticks.

Yep. You'll never go back!
Seriously, with your needs in mind, the Clie will surely spoil you.
Good Luck and welcome!

1) Everything needs to be converted on the desktop before it can viewed on the Clie, so i think you would have to download the attachment and tell documents to go to convert it, maybe somebody has more mail experience than me tho (very little here)

2) Editing of documents works fine for me, again, has to be converted to and from the desktop (prob. done automatically during hotsync)

3) PIM functions work fine for my needs, here are other replacements too

4) There is no 256 mb MS for the NR70v, you can the 128 mb stick
(max) or the memory stick select (which is two 128 mb sticks in the size of one, and you flip a switch to use each 128mb half) The new memory stick pro that supports 256 mb at once is only compatible with the NX and NZ, on the other hand, the NR actually plays a wider range of bitrates (and VBR) of mp3's, going below 128 kbps on the NX causes problems i've heard

5) Never used it

Agree that the NR70 is a great machine.

However, your comment regarding 'Avantgo' .... you might want to compare with Handstory (http://www.handstory.com) .

In my opinion, it beats the socks off Avantgo (but it is still a great program) :)

Just an aside about the need to convert documents to a format that documents-to-go can use on the PDA... I recently read that DataViz is working on a version of documents-to-go that will open/edit the native MSOffice file format-- soon you COULD simply save your files to the memorystick via MSImport from your PC without conversion, or receive an email with an MSOffice attachment & read/use it natively on the handheld.

Sorry I can't add a link to this information directly-- perhaps there's a press release on the DataViz site.

As mentioned here already, the 256MB sticks aren't an option for the NR70. However, I think you will be stunned at how many tracks you can fit on the 128 MB stick. I have a 32MB stick with about 14 songs high quality tracks on it. You should be able to fit fifty or more songs on a 128 MB stick without much difficulty.

the 128 mb ms is plenty for all your programs... if you are into listening to music alot, buy an ipod. It blows away the mp3 function of the NR. Congrats on going with a Clie, Now go out back and smash that ppc.
