Any ideas on how to do this? There are some functions that Hotsync doesn't transfer, and I'd like to restore my new handheld without having to reinstall everything.

When I try to restore the backup in the new unit, it says that it came from a different device. Any workarounds?

Thanks!

have you tried using MS Gate instead of MS Backup ? you'll just need to manually goto the backup folder (\PALM\PROGRAMS\MSBackup, and then a folder 0 to 4 that represent the "slot" in MS Backup) - click "Select All", and just COPY ! (you'll need to, like in MS Backup, to confirm overwrites).

What I like to do prior to restores, even when using MS Backup, is goto MS Gate first, "Select All" on the DEVICE (NOT MS), and delete, as the "restore" just adds files, and I'd like to have an exact restore, i.e. - after I deleted useless stuff like "Demo" & "Welcome"... :)

Goodluck.
(sure, you can also edit the "bkSet" file on the MSBackup folder to have it match your new ROM, but why bother? ;)

Since their backup file is a "zip" file, it should work for just about any situation.

Thanks! Well, it's not necessarily a good thing to do. You shouldn't have too much problem if it's the same device (i.e. you're replacing a defective NX80 with another NX80) but if you're 'trading up' or switching models, you SHOULD re-install everything. That way there will be NO conflicts between drivers/programs/etc. Restoring from back-up is only problem free when you're restoring the same device you backed up.

There's a REASON you can't restore to 'different' devices. Trust me.

YellowRose,

Thanks for publically stating pretty much what I said in a response to his PM to me! ;)

Thanks for the responses, all.

I was, in fact, transfering data to a replacement device of the same kind (NX70 to NX70), so the problems associated with new drivers, system files, etc. wouldn't be an issue.

I used Backupbuddy from Blue Nomad, and found that it worked great for what I needed. It ported all of the data, including my replacement graffiti area, which Hotsync didn't move across.

Hopefully the digitizer on this unit will last longer than my last one did! :)
