I don't think MSBackup allows you such an option. However, if you wan to invest a little, BackUpBuddy VSF allows you to do file by file restore. It also allows you to schedule unattended backups. It further enables you to determine your own backup sets. You'll find it at Bluenomad.com. I forget how much I paid for it but it was not very expensive. There is also a free, limited version.
Hope this helps,
Christian.

Are you trying to start over? You can do a hard reset, go to your Backup folder and move everything out except what you want to restore, and hotsync.

A application like McFile will see the backup and allow you to copy individual file from the memory stick to the pda. Since msbackup does not hide files nore have the ability to secure them it should work for you. I use McFile for this purpose with no problems.
thx for the replies McFile and backupbuddy will require me to have mem stick which i dont have one (planning to get one)

i will give that a try and yes i want to start over

Only a application like McFile will do what you want to accomplish. I use it all the time and its perfect for the task at hand. BTW there are other applications like McFile that are just as good so dont flame me over this. I just use McFile.

Zipman- you said you use McFile all the time. Can you give me some examples of when you've needed it? In 6 years with PDAs (Palm IIIx, Clie S360, and next week my T665c should arrive :D ) I've never even looked for an app like McFile, but I also end up with lots of crap on my PDA... some of which I can't identify so am afraid to delete. How often do you need to restore? Is this a problem I should plan on with the T665c? Can I share the app with someone who syncs to the same PC?

Check out PINSTALL.
Use the Windows Explorer to go to your Backup folder. And you can drag and drop selected prc and pdb files onto the PINSTALL icon.
Then press the hotsync button. The PINSTALL windows program intercepts the hotsync request and installs the apps and pdb files you chose onto your pda.
Hope this is the result you want.
Stay cool, dudes!

I use McFile to change the name of my backups on my memory stick. Whem I am away from my computer my only backup is on my memory stick. I use McFile to rename my backup folder to 'backup-030216' which would be todays date. I also use McFile to transfer ebooks from my memory stick to my T665 and back again. I also McFile to remove remaining files from a application delete. McFile acts the same way your Windows Explorer does for your computer. McFile can be used for many other things but these are the only items I use it for.
BTY Ayamd1 is correct about another way to reload items onto your pda. But I know of no other method to remove or rename unwanted files other than McFile or a utility that is like it.
I also have McFile as a button assignment on my pda. Several times after loading a application it locked up my pda and only by accessing McFile could I remove it and get my pda back to normal since I was unable to access my computer at the time or the backupbuddy application.

Ahhhh! Thanks!
I am rarely away from my computer enough that I would need to backup from the memory stick, but moving books back and forth is something I would really like to do.
I'm going to check out the apps discussions, but if no one minds a little OT discussion: What document readers do you like best?

I use PalmReader, ISilo and TomeRaider. All together they will allow me to read most ebooks, purchased or free.

SyncWizard http://envicon.com/SyncWizard/ you can just drag and drop from in Windows
Another excellent File Manager is FileZ (http://palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=70610720030216063955&prodID=9992). The prize is right, FREE.
I have both McFile 1.13 (older freeware version) in RAM and FileZ in MS. I deleted the useless MSGate off the ROM.
A couple nice things about FileZ that McFile can't do:
1. You can hide icon.
2. You can manipulate ROM apps.

One problem that will inevitable occur with transferring files back and forth from MS to RAM (especially in between syncs) is that you may have duplicate copies of files in both RAM and the MS.
I find McFile an indispensable tool in viewing apps on my PDA just like Windows Explorer on the pc. But it can't show contents of both RAM and MS in one display so that you can easily find the duplicates.
Megalauncher has this view option. I don't know of any other app that can do this.

BYT, to correct DanT, McFile can...
hide apps: It has a properties option that shows the status of a file (ReadOnly, System, Archive/Back-up, Bundle, and yes, Hidden).
stay cool.

Thanks for correcting me. What version do you use? I just have the older (freeware) version 1.13 and can't seem to find the file status in its menu.

I use McFile 2.2
I'm curious about FileZ's ability to manipulate ROM apps. Are you sure about this? Does this mean you can copy/move apps from ROM to RAM or the MS? McFile can't even beam ROM apps.
I know only JackFlash can do this (copy, move, and even beam), and only with files that it placed in Flash ROM.
Yes. Copying ROM apps to MS is no problem even the ones that have locks. However, I have not had the guts to move ROM apps to MS other than the Expense.prc which has a lock in it. When I tried to move it, I'll end up having one in ROM and one in MS, so moving acts as copying in this case.
If you want to have ROM backup files in MS, FileZ is perfect app for the job. The big difference between JackSprat and FileZ is that you can backup individual ROM apps with FileZ while JackSprat can only do the whole ROM and put into one FlashWrite file.
The best way to know and learn about it is to do it yourself. After all it's free and it would only help you to have a ROM backup. I have sent some ROM apps that I copied to MS with FileZ to people here who accidently blew away their ROM apps with JackSprat w/o having ROM backup.
