First let me apologize if you've already seen this. I posted in the T-Series forum and realized that it might be best in the Apps forum since non-T users may have encountered this problem.

I have a T665. If I run MSIMPORT with a memory stick in the slot, MSIMPORT starts up and shuts down after a few seconds. During this time, if I'm connected to my PC (Windows 2000), the removable drive appears in Explorer.

If I start MSIMPORT with no memory stick, it continues to run. I can use the menu, say disconnect, etc. As soon as I put a memory stick in the slot, MSIMPORT stops.

I have a 128Meg Lexar MS. I've also tried with a Sony 32Meg and the saem things happens.

The MS is formatted and I can read and write on the T665. I can launch applications from it. It's only MSIMPORT.

HELP!

Thanks

Bob

Running any overclocking software on your Clie? If so, set MSImport to run at the native 33. I had similar problems on my SJ30, and resetting FastCPU to run MSIimport at the original 33mhz speed.

What Gary said.

Also try uninstalling and reinstalling MS Import.

And if you're not overclocking and reinstalling MS Import doesn't help, then sync/back-up your data and try a hard reset. If the problem goes away, then you'll need to re-install your apps one at a time 'til you find the culprit.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm not using FastCPU or any other overclocking/speed utility. And MSIMPORT came in ROM on the T665. I did try using a copy in RAM that I got off the web but it did the same thing.

Looks like the next step is to try the hard reset and then my hacks.

1. Try installing MS-Export again on your PC.

2. Try another USB port on your PC.

Well, that was fun:eek:

Turns out that Launch'Em appears to interfere with MSIMPORT. Once I removed Launch'Em, MSIMPORT worked fine.

Here's the story, if you're interested.

I did a sync to backup everything and also backed up to the memory stick (I figured I might as well try that as well). Then I did a hard reset.

I then tested MSIMPORT and it worked fine. I could see it on my laptop as a removeable drive.

Next I reloaded everything from the backup on the memory stick (had to try it). Worked like a charm, except that when I re-activated my hacks, I got a fatal crash and had to soft reset (with the pin).

So I re-activated my hacks one-by-one and found that FontHack was the culprit. It turned out that it had to be activated last (or that's what it appeared to be).

However, with everything loaded, MSIMPORT again didn't work.

I suspected Launch'Em because it must keep track of the memory stick and the fact that I've had the odd stability issue with it before. When I removed Launch'Em, everything worked. I played with the hack activation sequence and it doesn't seem to matter anymore. That may have been Launch'Em as well.

I was about to evaluate new launchers anyway. Guess what I'm doing this weekend.:D

Thanks again for the suggestions.

And so can LauncherX, ZLauncher, you name it...

According to a second level Sony tech I talked to when I couldn't get MSImport to behave, they have reports of instances of most third-party launchers causing problems with MSImport. After doing a bunch of reinstall of MSExport and USB drivers on the desktop, he suggested a hard reset and reinstall, leaving any accelerator or third-party launcher off.

Thanks Gary. At least I'll be forewarned. Although a friend has LauncherX on his N??? and doesn't have any trouble with MSIMPORT.

Has anyone else had problems with MSIMPORT and 3rd party launchers?

Are there any replacements available for MSIMPORT?

Sony tech did say it wasn't every launcher instance, just was reported for most launcher replacements at times...

When I had this problem I decided to try to go it without a 3rd party launcher, and so rely on Wassup (gives me my five most used apps up front), and TealLaunch (adds 12 more of most used apps tied to a button), then gave some deep thought to organziing buttons to launch vital things (TealLaunch gives you full control over all sorts of button combos to do most anything).

I found that I adapted very well to this, it takes up less RAM, and the SJ30 seems to run a little faster at the front.

But, most people are gaagaa over launchers, so this might not work for everyone...

Early versions of LX (don't remember which - 1.00 or 1.01?) had the same problem.  The current version - 1.02 - works fine with MSImport.
