I recently got a SL10 and I sync my old file from my Palm to the new clie...ten when I clicked on this game to test it out. It froze on my clie and made lines. I couldnt do, couldn't turn it off or anything. I took my batteries out and now when I put it back in there it wouldn't turn on now, I tried resetting it, only the palm powered screen comes on. Did that program mess my clie up?

No... It wasn't the program.
What happened is that you loaded some of the "driver" files from your old palm onto your new CLIE.
The "driver" and your new CLIE are not compatable or it did not need it so it did that to your new CLIE.
You need to go into your backup folder of the Palm Desktop and pick out the PDB files that correspond to your Phonebook, Schedule, Todo, and Memo, and SYNC them onto your CLIE.
DONE:)

After the palm powered screen comes up, it just stays there. I'm thinking something must have happened to the software for this to happen since it was working perfectly fine before I tried using one of the program i hotsync. I guess I will just have to see if I can exchange for a new unit at the store...thanks for your help Ultra...much appreciated :)

If this doesnt work then just trade in your CLie for a new one of the same model at the store. If not you might think of getting a [yes that's right] SJ22.

Alright...I took the batteries out and left it there for a few hours, did the hard reset...and it started to work again.:D
thanks for all the info...you guys are awesome
I guess I should be more careful on which games to put on my clie..
should I be cautious on which programs I upload to my clie in the future? I don't want it to die on me like that again

as a general rule, which you get a new pda, you can't simply hotsync the old backup to the new. you should install one by one, to ensure compatability.

No problem, I just cant believe people didnt suggest this first. Well, you should always be careful, but no "program" should ever pernamently damage a device. Of course something out there probably can. It's like a computer, a good format and it's all better, but of course hackers can make your hd catch on fire (yikes! my friend can do it!). But generally, a soft reset will fix almost all problems, a hard reset should fix all.
Now, to make sure it does not install on to your clie again when you sync with the computer again, go to x:/program files/sony handheld/[your user name]/backup and there are all the programs you have installed. These will reinstall onto your clie when you sync again, so I suggest you delete the file that corrupted it, or else the same thing will happen.
And as the other person said, it is a good idea to start fresh from device to device. But if you switch between 2 OS's that have the same compatibility, this is what you should do: (i did this with my SL10 to my NR70V to my NX73V which I just got a few days ago :D) take all the files in the backup folder and place it somewhere else, and uninstall the old version of the palm desktop (if there is a new version to install). The backup files should actually still be tehre, they will be there until you manually delete them, but you hvae a backup just in case. And installt he new palm desktop and hotsync. Of course if its a different OS like OS4 to OS5, you'll have some conflicts, but if the programs are quite new, you shouldnt have too many problems, and if so, hard reset and delete all the files in the backup folder if you dont know what is causing it to be corrupted and if you know just delete those file(s). Good Luck! Just post if any more help is needed.

Oh and forgot to mention, just do a MS backup when your completely satisfied with the programs and working order of your clie. These backups will not change if anything new is installed. And if anything screws up, like before, soft/hard reset, and if needed use the MS backup to backup the files.
My suggestion is get a better clie! I had a SL10, wow, its nothing compared to my NX73V! I actually love using it everyday. My SL10 was not really used too much cause the screen just sucked hehe.
So yah, you dont have to be uber careful, there shouldnt be too many thing that can cause your clie any harm. Often its a conflict between two programs, but you should be fine.

and of course set your preferences to desktop overrides handheld, to preserve your address book, date book, memos, to do.

? That prob isnt the best idea. Everytime you sync, all your adresses will be gone because your desktop will have nothing!

i was assuming that you have a desktop pim, that you change pda's that have the same os, and are basically hotsyncing. that keeps your desktop pim to transfer to the new (and empty) pda.

Oh, i get it, I thought you meant on a regular basis. But your adress, to do list, etc, are all files in your backup folder!

At first the clie was still malfunctioning, the screen would freeze up everytime i reset it. I took you guy's advice and deleted all the backup files in the user folder and it did the trick. It went back to normal. I guess like mentioned before, there was probably conflicts between different O.S because my palm was running on a OS 3.3 and my clie is OS 4. Thanks again, you guys are the best
