View Full Version : When will we see more ML 4.1 skins?

I hope someone out there is working on new skins for ML 4.1 (or will be soon)...

The new skin on their website is beautiful (it's linked below), but has to be run at 16 bit color depth--which slows things down a bit on my T615...

Definately shows how nice this launcher can look, though...

No crashing problems on your 615 with ML 4.1?

I have been running 4.1 on my 615 for 2 days now without a problem. Am I the anomoly?

I doubt that you're an anomoly...no resets here.

I've been running 4.02, and now 4.1, without any problems at all...

Cool. Just wanted to know before I give it a go again.
Thanks:)

Me too! Since day one of 4.0 I have had it on my 615 and NO PROBLEMS! I keep trying the others over and over but keep coming "Home" to ML. Like an old friend.

Just curious to what make you guys want to replace 3.2.2 with 4.1?

I'm pretty sure that those that are having problems with ML 4.1 (or even earlier version of ML 4) are having problems because of funky hacks or software configurations. I have had ZERO problems since the release of 4.0.1 and up. And I really like ML4. I too, hope that someone is working on some cool, nice Skins....however, I'm sure that MS is working on some. I've been impressed with their rate of updates and changes. I'm really curious to find out what the "developer" thing on their website is for ML4. I hope it has to do with making your own backgrounds/skins. That would be cool! I expect to see it next week or the week after at the latest. Unlike LX which has promised more skins and the ability to use background images a LONG tmie ago. Wonder when that will happen. Oh well...doesn't matter to me, since I have my FAVORITE launcher in ML4.

I upgraded to ML 4, from 3.2.2, partly because it's easy to become obsessive about having the latest version of EVERYTHING on my Clie...

But for real benefits...

- it looks nicer (more polished), and I'm confident that we will begin to see some outstanding skins soon

- there's no real speed trade-off, particularly when ML4 is run at 8 bit color. Even at 16 bit, which looks amazing, the speed on my T615 is not bad at all.

- Now, with version 4.1, you can use high-density icons (OS5 icons). It's great to see these on my T615...

- I don't care much about backgrounds, because I don't think they look that great generally, and they have the potential to slow the launcher down, so that was not part of the decision for me...

I loaded 4.0 on the day that I got a message from Megasoft2000, so day one, and have only had one crash, on the first day when I tried to preview a background.  Otherwise I have loaded each new update as I get them (and have been constantly checking back to Megasoft2000 for updates and new skins/icons/backgrounds)

Reasons why I upgraded were because a: thought I would test it out and so far none of the drawbacks have been enough to send me back to 3.2.2 though I do miss being able to automatically copy JackFlash to Ram from MS, but dont' do that very often.  I like the Icons for those random programs that I have that have old b&w icons (I never was successful at getting AppIcon to run.)  And I like the option of backgrounds but will be much more interested in them if it comes out how I can create my own backgrounds.  I would really like to see more skins come out, or at least the Megasoft2000 page to complete so that third party developers could create skins.

Hmm.  I'm still hesitating to upgrade since I only have 320x320 and still like the Aerospace sony skin for 3.2.2.  I haven't seen similar skin for the ML4.0, yet.

How much more memory would the wallpaper and 16 bit color add to the ML4.0?  Looking at the ML related files in McFile, the ML3.2.2 takes about 504 KB, including the Aerospace sony skin (125 KB).  How does ML3.2.2 size compare with ML4.0?

Thanks

ML4 takes 1081K in my T665C with one 320x320x16-bit background, skin, and icon set. ML4 doesn't store unused skins or backgrounds on a memory card, so you'll eat a lot of RAM if you like variety. It also doesn't support jpgs, only bmps, for backgrounds. Although the interface looks nice in 16-bit color, there is little functionality beyond 3.3.2 and actually the loss of archiving capability. Hard to believe that took a year.

Thanks for the input tanker_bob.  Wow, that's a memory sucker just for a launcher.  I'll hold off installing ML4.1 for awhile then.  I think I can live without 16 bit color and wallpaper.  I can use FileZ to hide apps too.

Yes, you have to keep the file. It's more like Datebk5 in icon operation than AppIcon. The app file itself is not changed.

I have a NX70 and have had it for the past 2 days...with no problems whatsoever....i have the 16 bit wallpaper config...and haven't notice any slow downs or anything yet...
i actually use mine with the last background at their download site...and i use transparent skin...that has a very nice effect...almost negates needing skins...as skins make the screen look smaller whereas the transparency shows the background more making the skin look larger....
