When my clie is fully charged, with the hold button on, i place it in my briefcase, travel for the day, upon my arrival, it is dead, all info gone !!!! i then have to sync to re-install the info. is this common, should it not keep a trickle charge to maintain the info.

You should not use the hold button. It keeps the Clie on with backlight off. Simply turn off the clie.

the unit is off and the hold button on, i though this prevents the unit from turning on accidently.

1. Did you fully charge your battery the first time you used your Clie?
2. When you activate the hold button, did you leave your Clie on? It is a common problem especially if you were listening to an mp3.
3. How long have you owned your Clie?
4. Do you routinely let your battery drain before you charge it back up (other than the current problem you are experiencing)
Some Suggestions:
You should always fully charge your battery the first time you use an new device with a lithium ion or lithium polymer battery. (as tempting as it may seem to use your new device, this step is very important.)
All batteries wear out over time. How long depends on how much you drain and charge your battery. Batteries depend on a chemical reaction to generate power and over time those chemicals break down. Also, heat can accelerate the process.
Hope this information is helpful to you.
David:)

Hi Dave, thanks for your quick reply, my clie is about 2 months old, purchased new, had it charge for 12 hours before i even looked at it. i read the manual cover to cover. i always turn off the unit and then put the hold button on, ( to ensure it dosn't turn on ) i would think the unit has a small battery that would keep the memory intact should the rechargable battery empty. anyways, something for sony to look at and as i have read other postings, i'm not the only one with the problem. seems my old palm III had replacable batteries that lasted much, much longer. of course different aplications use more power, fully understood...however, when it looses all power ( when turned off ) and deletes the memory...this is the problem.
thanks again,
Richard

Richard,
I travel with mine exactly as you do with yours. It will drain, however, if an alarm or some other timed event that uses the alarm system activates the device even with the hold button on and then crashes the system. I've had that happen a couple of times. The culprit was MSDict Hack--it just hated the hold button being on when alarms went off. I had to soft reset after taking off hold because the screen wouldn't come back. I removed the hack and everything works fine now.
You might try not putting the device on hold for a couple of days and see if something is locking up the device during the day. If experimentation fails to find such a problem, you may have a bad battery. Try running Battery Test. The battery should last about 3.5 hours w/ 1/4 backlight. I have a chart in my T665C review on my website.

I had the exact problem with my T615 at first.
It would drain completely, even when turned off.
So I Emailed Sony.....and waited.
Finally I took it back to Best Buy and had it replaced.
Since then no problem at all.
A Sony rep finally emailed me back and stated that sometimes the batteries "just aren't what they should be".
As far as battery performance goes, TankerBob was the best source for that. So far his reply to my query on that subject has been right on the money.

Link to my website is in my signature below. Look for my T665C review. For hacks, I have a link under the software section of my site to another site that explains hacks extremely well. However, if you don't know what one is, you probably don't have any loaded.
