How to find hotspots?

I am very new to Wireless LAN world. I just purchased the WL110 and I was wonderring how to connect to the free hotspots in my area. Is there a way to get the SSID information while in the Hotspot, or must I program the info. into a network profile before I enter the hotspot? If so, how do I get the information? Thanks.

Put "any" without the quotes for ssid, set it to infrastructure, leave the encryption/wep empty, and under advanced options turn off power saving.

Although it takes some space, Avantgo has been helpful for me. Avantgo, a web on the go application has a category that finds hotspots by zipcode. Works great..... lets you know if the service is free or a must pay, also gives address and phone number of the place. (mostly coffee shops)
