Hi,
I'm having some strange problems with the Audioplayer. I copied some MP3s onto the memory stick and tried playing them... only problem is that that music tracks would skip or the sound would distort so badly that I have to stop the track.
I tried re-encoding the MP3s and tried different music tracks and encoding settings.
I read on past treads on the settings to use when encoding and these were the settings that I used:
44.1 KHz sampling rate
96kbps bit rate
No variable bit rate (VBR)
I even installed the recent NX system update as one of the updates in it were the improved MP3 playback but the problem still did not go away.
Any help or idea why this is happaning?
Thanks!!

silly me, i tried to pack more music on the stick by re-encoding at 96k, but its not happening. i found a link a couple of days ago on the sony support site mentioning problems with mp3s at 96k, i'll try to find it for you. i eventually just stuck with the ones i already had encoded at 128 and it solved the problem.

yes... I also tried encoding at 128 but the same problem still came up...
I noticed that the NX has difficulty reading from the memory stick and that's why the music track keeps skipping and even distorts at certain points!...
At one point the one I played one track...music from the next song in list even came up in between the current song! It is very strange....
I hope it's not because my NX hardware is faulty....

Are you sure the folder or mp3 file on your Memory Stick isn't corrupted? My other thought is some hack or other app running at the same time.

I'm sure the MP3 files are ok coz I'm able to play them fine on my computer...
I also took a sampling of my MP3 collection and all of them had problems playing regardless of sampling rate/settings...
I even took some CDs to encode fresh MP3 files...but still the same problem when playing back on the clie....

Have you looked to see if the memory stick has file errors? It's quite common, no different from having errors on a hard drive resulting from crashes and other stuff.
One other suggestion, is to try your memory stick in another unit to try it. Take a ride down to your local electronics store that has Clies on display and try it. Tell the salesperson that your considering a purchase and would like a test drive.
This way you could ascertain if it's hardware or software related. The other alternative is to do a hard reset after backing up your unit and trying the mp3 player before installing anything else.

yes...I suppose I have to make a trip down to ascertain if it is indeed my NX hardware that has gone wonky!....
BTW I even tried writing to the fabled Sony support...
and all they told me was to hard-reset my clie...
hmmmm.....

I have this problem as well...
Apparently it is the poor support of mp3 in their software. The sonic stage software that came free with the NX will not play some mp3 if it is not error-free.

So is there another 3rd party MP3 player software available for the NX??... if it is the really a software problem...?
is anybody using another MP3 player software for their NX besides the supplied Audioplayer?
coz I hope that this is not a hardware problem...

I sent my NX70V to the Sony service center for repairs today. After bringing it back to to store and trying to exchange for a new set. They said that I have to bring it for repairs instead.... :-(
At least I found out what was wrong with it:
The memory stick reader had problems. When I asked for another set to try playing the mp3s on my memory stick, the music played flawlessly.
Oh, another problem was that I can't play any Kinoma movies. They will just hang the clie.
So now I have to wait at least 7 to 10 working days before I can see my clie again...
