Why can't we view the Memory stick folders directly using Data Import application? i need to easily export some MP3 files from laptop to MS directly rather than temporarily to Int. media.... or did I miss something here... sorry for asking such a "stupid" question...

Dun use data import. I always click on the memory stick icon in the status bar of my UX. A window called 'Media Info' will pop up. From there select Device and click 'PC Link'.

If I select MS and click on PC Link, a removable drive will appear in My Computer. From there I can browse everything in the Memory stick. Same goes for Internal Media.

Thanks Arcane!!
Didn't realize that function.

Another question - How useful is USB MEmory stick reader? Should I get this? WIll it ease the data transfer further? At least i don't need to bring the PDA or a cable...right? Any comment?

Personally, I love having a reader outside of the ux50, but for speed more. The PCMCIA card reader I use quotes specs of 16.6 Mbytes/sec, compared to the posted max USB spec of 11Mbits/s...

I do agree, I also have a 6-in-1 reader/writer & they can come in handy. :p

How much is a 6 in 1 Reader?

6-in-1 readers run from $10 to $30 or so.

I found one that uses a separate, removable USB cord that connects to the reader with the same 5pin MiniUSB that the UX50 uses for sync; card reader and spare sync cable in one purchase. Mine is made by Inland ($10-20) and handles MS and MS-Pro (7-in-1 by some standards) but several other brands use the same cable configuration. I believe Lexar's does.

If you get a USB 2.0 reader and have a USB 2.0 compliant PC then you will get noticably faster transfer. My reader is still faster than the UX50's Data Import when using a USB 1.1 compliant Mac (the Clie is having to go through Missing Sync's driver).

BTW, the "PC Link" button mentioned above accesses the same applet that is acessed from the "Data Import" icon in Launcher. The only difference seems to be that the "PC Link" button forces the selection to "MS". If you access the applet from "Data Import" it might be trying to sync the Internal.Media instead of the MS. There is a dropdown selector in the upper right of the dialog that lets you select between them.

Lexar http://www2.dealtime.com/xPO-Lexar_JUMP_DRIVE_TRIO_NO_MEMORY_JUMP_DRIVE_TRIO_NO has a great product I have. It is small and you can put in a memory stick or SD - in fact I've copied those CF palm programs (monopoly) to my harddrive and to my Clie this way. Works great!
