I created a MQV file of a Lord of the Rings trailer by dragging it to the image converter. It converted OK except I get no sound when I play it.

Any suggestions, folks?

What was the original file?
AVI? or MPEG?

Its most likely using an audio encoder which image converter doesnt recognize.

Use VirtualDub a program that allows you to see and separate the audio and video tracks, play with the options there, try reencoding the audio track using some default common audio encoders, it should work.

If original source is AVI, this may because the audio is compressed?
There is a package called avi2vcd which comes with a decompress utility.

This will create seperate video and uncompressed audio files.

You can then use a program like TMPGenc (or avi2vcd) to merge the video and uncompressed audio back into a single mpeg file.

Hope this helps...

It is only 1 step in VirtualDub, open video file and select video -> "Direct Stream Copy" and audio -> "Full proccessing mode" and select "No compression PCM" or "Microsoft ADPCM", then you can create a new video file w/ non-compressed audio.

And I really hope the "unregistered" can use search first instead of posting questions directly... That's really a FAQ.

jackho,
VirtualDub doesn't work for me - I get the following error when I try to use the method you suggest.

"No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format".

I was unable to fix this, but found reference to avi2vcd in another thread which helped me work around the problem.

I think that video file is using AC3 codec, so you need to install AC3 decompressor to let VirtualDub works. For most cases, avi is using MP3 for audio, no need to install other things to decompress (except VBR MP3).

You can search posts in this forum, it already posted the d/l link before.
