okay so I have the following:
I have a laptop that is connected to the internet via wired ethernet.
This laptop also has a wireless 801.11b card.
I can have both connections active at the same time. But where I am right now there is not wireless access point for my UX to connect to.
I have hoping to be able to share the wired connection through ethernet connection sharing and then used the shared connection from the wireless. I use windows 2000 btw.
Any ideas how to accomplish this? I played around with it a while but got nothing.
However I was able to do a HotSync via wireless withough an accesspoint using an adhoc connection. If you guys want to know I can tell you how I did that.
Thanks
Tan

Okay
so here is what you do:
look at your network neighborhood (assuming you have windows)
you should see a connection for your wired and one for your wirelss card.
Right click on the wired one, go to the sharing tab and say share.
Now on your wireless connection create a wireless profile as follows:
adhoc
ip 192.168.0.1
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
then you should be able to scan and find it on your UX and use. Your milleage may vary. play with the gateway if you don't have luck. I have a very strange network setup today. that will all change in about an hour.

So here are the steps you need to do it without an actuall access point. (I am assuming you know how to do it with an accesspoint already.
On your PC/laptop create a wireless profile as follows:
Network type: adhoc
channel (whatever channel you want)
then specify the ip:
192.168.0.253
and a subnet mask
255.255.255.0
I didn't fill in the default gateway info cause you shouldn't need it.
Now you can enable WAP if you want but try it without first ...
Now on your clie, create another profile as follows:
Network type: adhoc
channel (whatever channel you selected before)
then specify the ip:
192.168.0.252
and a subnet mask
255.255.255.0
Then go over to your hotsync and set the following:
Modem Prefs: network
LanSync: LANSync
Primary PC:
pc name: !!
ip: 192.168.0.253
subnet : 255.255.255.0
You should now be able to select the modem and hotsync through and Adhoc connection. Make sure you are connected via that connection on your clie though. I would test the connection first.
On you PC you will need to make sure that the above profile is active.
Okay I think that is overkill, you should get it by now. Have fun syncing faster than ever. Oh and this is probably the most secure way other than the cradle, especially if you turn on WAP.

so lemme get this straight, you have a laptop with a cable connection. The labtop is wifi enabled.
You are sharing internet connection on your UX50 from your laptop, but you do not have a wifi router??
if so, i'm all over this!!

Yes thats right.
Actually I do own a wireless router but most of the time (when I am at work) its not around so I did this other thing.
It works great.

hey trezaei, I can't seem to share my wired internet connection.
Everytime I click the share checkbox, it tries to share my connection, then says that it won't work because another connection is using that particular IP.
What gives?
What can I do about it?
Your hotsync instructions work perfectly though.

You want to share your wired connection WITH your wireless connection. So right click on the wired one and go to sharing. If you're connected with the wired connection at the time. it should work. If you are behind any kind of firewall or anything this will probably take you a couple of days to get right. Its a pain in the neck.
But as you mentioned the HotSync thing works real well.
