Ok so I've now had the "opportunity" to test the effectiveness of backup software. So far so bad.

Having been a registered user of CardBackup, I got the upgrade to the OS5 compatible one and have had scheduled backups running for awhile. Today came the opportunity to try to restore.

Got errors on four files, and then a crash requiring a reset. So, after hotsyncing and manually restoring everything that Hotsync missed, I started looking into others. On suggestions from the UX forum here I tried Backupman. It errors out on the same files as Cardbackup! To its credit, it doesn't crash. But still not a clean restore.

The four cranky files are

AvxMPEG4Decoder
AVXMP3Decoder
FATFS
MMFlashLib

MSBackup doesn't seem to have problems with restore but of course MSBackup can't be automated to execute on a daily basis.

Error codes that I get for the failures are 021A and 0201,

Suggestions anyone? CardBackup and Backupman both allow exclusions so I could exclude the four offending files and just copy them manually. Three of them I suspect are fairly static. But what about FATFS? Is this one a static file or is it some kind of data file?
