look i want to store lotsa mp3's and videos.. what you guys go for? is compact flash easy to use or a hassle to setup? i am leanin more towards MS pro cuz its small and can fit right inside w/o sticking out. How many of you guys use compact flash (what size?) and what software/emulator u need to make it work on nx80? thanks

Almost all CFs work with no problem on the NX80, but I use MS Pro because of small size and also I use my CF slot for wireless networking. So for storage space I choose MS Pro, when you are on the run alot it is so much more compact.

I use the athena drivers, easy to set up, I keep books and work on CF, music and movies on512mb MS Pro
Make sure to download drivers for mspro from sony for nx70
CF is way cheaper, but i find itis very hard on battery....

Id say get the MS pro if money is no object, but as it usually is, you can get a 512 CF for just a little more than a 128MS!! think about it!

cf is a heck lot cheaper BUT u might have problems with the cf slot hinge on the nx80 wearing out. There were quite a few people who broke their cf slot so watch out for that. Also, MSpro is faster than CF and can stay in the slot forever w/o any problems of breaking the ms slot. both can be used for mp3s and vids, data, books, etc.
i use booth for different things. for backup and e-books i use the 128mb MS. for everything else i prefer the 1Gig CF.
i prefer to spend my money for CF cause i got other devices which can use CF too.

CF is great for speed (it is twice as fast as MS Pro) and MB/$, however it isn't very practical to carry all the time. If it is something you take in and out it works good, but my MS stays in all the time. Also the CF consumes more current than MS.

I just replaced my 128M MS with a 256M MSPro, and I keep programs, data, books, etc on it. The 256M CF card I bought when I first got my 80 is where I keep MP3's and the occasional movie...

Forgot to say the MS is a permanent resident in my NX80, the CF comes out when I want to use wireless...

I prefer MS Pro, but I can't afford it right now so I use a 128MB MS, and a 512MB SanDisk CF card. I'm groovin'.

Poor guys like me like CF better

MS Pro really isn't that fast...it's theoretical limit is 20 megabytes per second. But nothing uses the optimized hi-speed transfer method currently. And Sony has stated the real world max is probably going to be around 15 megabytes.

Is the CF really 2x as fast as the MS Pro? While the raw speeds that CFs list in their specs are faster than MSPro, I thought that the CLIE didn't use the CF to their full potential. Then again, I might be wrong.
As far as the CF vs. MS goes. I put all of my applications on my 128MB MS and all of my media (books, movies, shows, mp3s, etc.) on my 512MB CF card. I won't put anything critical on the CF card for my NX because it stops accessing at 35% battery.

I don't know about CF being fast, when I had the MicroDrive the video always hung when I was trying to fast forward or rewind. The CF slot seemed to use more power than MS slots. I am happy with MS Pro instead of CF now. I store my music on the 256 MS and my movies on the 512 MS and save the CF slot for WiFi. If money is no option, roll with the MS Pro.

I use primarily CF.
I used ot only have a 64MB Sony MSMagicGate. I still do, but I store all of my information on my 256MB Sandisk CF card. It is definitely faster than my MS, and my only use for my MS is backing up my Clie's main memory and holding CF drivers if my Clie resets.
BTW-my CF isn't twice as fast as my MS, though. Maybe 20%.

I like both for the advantages previously mentioned and actually keep 512 MS pro and a 1 gig cf in my NX80 most of the time.
I'm glad I hopped on board that wi-fi card special a few months back when a bunch of us got them for 17.00 after the temporary price reduction and $50 rebate, because I hardly use mine!
My CF smokes my ms and I really sense it when backing up with backupman to cf instead of the ms (And I alternate between the 2 medias when I backup because well... you never know) and as mentioned it's a hell of lot cheaper.
I also notice the speed increase when opening dictionary/encyclopeidia databases as well as large books and file transfers.
Now, if the NX80 was optomized to take advantage of the MS pro speed.
And other than the MS pro's advantage of being compact, I can keep it in even if decide to use wi-fi (CF slot)and there's nothing to be concerned with as far as what apps will be fully functional and which software will make it functional because all multimedia are completely with the MS Pro.
This is why I own both and why
MS Pro 512 -ease of use, not as expensive as 1 gig MS pro, compact and for me personally the ability to use it with my camera (sony), my notebook(HP) and my desktop(I built it) were deciding factors as well.
CF 1g Viking -inexpensive and fast!
If I had to choose one and only one I would choose the MS Pro for compactness and compatiblity straight out of the box!

hey it may be a bit off topic but.....
want to ask as yr3698 pointed out that it is very easy to break the hinge of the NX80/73 if a normal CF is inserted and not being removed when carrying your NX....... does that stand true for the WL100?? because i don't want to always insert/remove my Wirless CF, as i may use it all the time (i currently use NX70 btw)
in addition, my friend waynema suggested if you want to use CF as a storage, NX70 would be a very good choice since the CF slot is non-retractable, which makes it sturdy and stable. ;)

I always haev something in my cf slot and never have problems, but heard of others who have.
I'd have no problems leaving the wi-fi inserted either.
But I must warn you that I don't were tight clothing which I assume would create more stress on anything you put in your pocket and although I'm very active and don't baby my NX80 I haven't don't ran a game of ball with it in my pocket either. :)

I've tried both and have to say, much as I love the cheapness of CF, that MS wins... simply because with the CF in my NX 73, the unit becomes very bulky & clumsy in my hands and I can hardly type!

Personally, I think those who use 'gay' as an insult or synonym for stupidity are arsehowles...
..no offence...

Um ... I don't think they were using it as an insult or any such synonym. They were simply really saying that if you're not a chick but wear tights (and with a NX in front pocket) it would look really gay.

Yes... and in this context, what does the word 'gay' signify exactly, if *not* an insult? Maybe it's because I'm British (or possibly because I'm bisexual) but I just don't see how the word could be seen as anything but insulting here. It's a bit of modern American slang that, IMHO, should have been strangled at birth.

<bow> Apology accepted with thanks... and yeah, I'm with you on the MS thing.
Now if they only made the bloody things cheaper, we'd all be happy!
