does anyone know how to change graffiti-2 tograffiti-1? is there a patch program that's available for this? i'm not a fan of the new graffiti style writing. i've used the old graffiti for years and to change it now is too much for me.

Thanks rincage!
I was looking for something like this also! I dislike the grffiti2, after using the old graffiti for about 5 years!
How does this work? Just smiple hotsynch installation? Any conlficts with Palm OS5?
Off course I will not have a chance to test it until my TJ35 comes back from SONY after they fix (I hope) the backlight.

And don't forget this useful little program after changing back to Graffiti 1: http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&prodid=45513

Yannis767,
One note from someone who crashed a TJ25 doing this incorrectly....
Do NOT install the files via hotsync. Copy to Memory Stick & then transfer the files as per the instructions.
And Crossing Over as suggested is a great freeware program to use the Caps feature without having to shift...the only feature of Graffiti-2 that i liked...

one more question, what is the difference between grafitti 1 or two, they both feel the same. I have been using decuma, and let me tel you it is really nice.

The differences are truly minor, and I like Grafitti2 better now that I am used to it. The main differences in daily writing are the way you draw about 3 letters, and do caps.
Decuma is an awesome little tool although I rarely have to bring it up, I only use it do symbols now that I have Grafitti2 all figured out.

Punctuation is also slightly different. Took me a while to figure it out.

I have used Graffiti 1 (then known as plain old graffiti...we were innocent....didn't know they could and would change it on us) since my Palm IIIc days. So, it is habit - so much so, that sometimes when I write with pen and paper I use graffiti without thinking.
So, I was overjoyed when I discovered this little fix. Works like a charm. Just remember to follow the instructions. And since I don't have an SD, I hoped the instructions applied to the MS card....and they did.

I may be alone in this, but when I first got my NX80V I had two initial disappointments (my only two). First, I realized I didn't like Graffitti 2. Graffiti 1 is much easier. Second (and here' where I may be alone), Decuma crashed my brand new NX! I had absolutely nothing loaded as it was literally new in the box just 5 minutes earlier, so I know there was no conflict with a third party program. I was looking forward to using it, but I can't.
I switched back to G2 and my NX hasn't crashed since. I'm just curious... anybody else have this problem with Decuma crashing their machine?
Also, any pos or neg experiences with Teal Script on an NX80V?
Thanks much.

Thanks, Everyone!
I checked out the PalmInfocenter link and it looks like I'll need to get a couple original Graffiti system files from somewhere or someone:
Graffiti Library.prc, size: 30k, creator: grft
Graffiti Library_enUS.prc, size 22k, creator: grft
Graffiti Library_esES.prc, size ???, creator: grtf (i need because I'm, Spanish)
Can anyone post them, e-mail them to me, or point me to where I can download them?

I've crashed my TJ37 a couple of times trying to install the Graffiti 1 libraries.
I'm following the instructions, except for disabiling Tealskin etc because my Clie is brand new. I haven't installed any Graffiti substitutes.
THis is what I'm doing:
1) Copying the two files to Memory Stick via Data Import (The instructions say to use Quick Install...don't know what that is...)
2) Moving each file in order from the MS to the Handheld using FileZ. (I also did it a couple of times using Clie Files.)
3) Pressing the reset button.
then CRASH!!!
Can anyone help???
PS My TJ37 is a Japanese Palm. Is that why it is not taking the new (old ) files...

Hi. I'm also one of those who like graffiti1 more than graffiti2.
I did exactly the same steps you listed. There was no crash at all. That means maybe Japanese Palm OS is causing the problem you are having?
I'm a Japanese but have never used Japanese OS clie with graffiti2, so I'm not totally sure... :-(

Hi Coelacanth,
I think I might just have to get used to Graffiti two...
Two questions for you:
1) Do you know a similar site to Cliesource in Japanese?
2) Do you use a dictionary in your Clie? Can you recommend one? My dream would be to find something similar to a Denchi Jisho for the Palm. I tried Dokusha but it's slow...

Hi, sorry about the graffiti1&2 thing.
Hum, about the first question, I'd say Clie Club. (http://www.clieclub.jp/) They update a lot of news regarding to clie and palm device stuff everday. They also update many sale info and product news for Jananese market as well. I don't visit there as much as this site since I live in the states, though. (Situation around PDA in Japan is so different from the states, and I can't buy those only-japanese-market-products.... ahhh)
They also got forums for each series of clie, just like this site. (of course this site is a lot more active though ;-)
About the 2nd question. I use only english-english dictionary on Clie. I use famous KDIC with worldNet dictionary. Buying Japanese commercial software on the web is kinda difficult since I don't own Japanese credit cards... I go online dictionaries when I need to use E-J or J-E dictionaries.
I almost forgot to mention that I've heard Pocket Lingo DELUXE is nice.
better is getting graffiti anywhere ..

Try it out. It enables one to write anywhere on the screen instead of just in the graffiti area.

OK, I'm ready to take the plunge with my TH55.
However, just a quick question.
What do you guys do in case of a HARD RESET?
Do you need to do anything special upon a hard reset to get rid of the Grafitti 1 files or prevent the system from reinstalling??
I'm using Backup buddy, which does a full reinstall when you put it in the cradle after a hard reset including all third party programs and settings).
TIA

i though it was good, so good that when i heard that palm 0s5 was replacing graffiti with jot i was happy.
the transition for me wasn't so tough.. try some calligraphy on the alphabet demo graffiti 2 brings... if you don't wanna risk crashing your CLie

I just switched my tj37 to graffiti 1 and I now it's almost perfect!
(Gee I said the same thing with my t665c a couple of years ago)
I still use a Handspring Visor for work everyday, which makes it much more difficult to master graffiti 2. I think when I replace the older Visor I'll go for graffiti 2 which is really much nicer to use.
Thanks all!

Grafitti 1 is so much more forgiving than G2 for writing on the move!

I switched my TJ37 to grafitti 1, and it works great, middle caps also works great... Just load the files on to your memory stick and then move them over to the main memory and do a soft reset... I had no problems at all. (this message is for those that are worried about crashing).

Great,
I just switch back to Graffiti 1, using Crossover.
Question:
Does anyone have a good way of making a capital "I" using the Crossover method.
I can do it sometimes, but not regularly, as the area to get it right is very small with just a straight line, or a slightly slanted line.
The best I can do is a slightly slanted line, directly to the right of the "dots" without "crossing over."
It seems a little tight, but I think I can learn to do it regularly with practice.
Thanks,
Eric

I like graffiti 2 but don't like constantly writing t's at the end of my words... Do you know what I'm talking about?
When I 'space' then start a new word with a letter that starts with a downward motion it makes a t... can i stop that somehow? Because everything else is great.

You can change the stroke order of the T so that the down stroke comes first and then the horizontal stroke.
Goto Prefs > Graffiti 2 > t > uncheck the box > Done
See how that works

Why not just do a hard reset rastlin?
BTW, I'm new here guys... TJ37 set up with VNC, FTP, and other fun stuff :D
I used to have a Palm IIIc and loved G1, G2 is just a pain in the butt... I'm gonna try the switch tonight but also wanted to know how you would make a capital i with CrossOver...
Also, does anyone have a quick guide for G1.. Gonna have to remember how to draw some of those symbols again ;)

<<Why not just do a hard reset rastlin?>> ya see therein lies the problem i have griffiti 1 and i want griffiti 2. if i did a hard reset it will revert to griffiti 1 and thats how i orgionally lost the files which i "borrowed" from a place that i no longer have access to. i would be more then happy to send ya the my files for yours ;). now to make a capital "I" what you do is to make a upward stroke on the alphabet side to make the "up arrow" for a single caps then if i am not mistaken do a downwards stroke for the letter "I" and i have some griffiti 1 pics and i will try to upload them onto the system, can you please send me griffiti 2 pics i would greatly appreciate it thx

If you install all the Graffiti 1 files it comes with the tutorial, just drag the pen from the write area across the screen... (or set it up to do this in preferences.)

Here ya go. I included a picture (thoough not too great) of the quick G2 guide that came with my TJ37. I don't know and can't say this will work rastlin... for all I know it could very well crash your PDA.... These are the G2 files coming from my TJ37 and I make no claim that using the same process mentioned in the first post will work for you in this case. My only possible suggestion would be to try the same method, if it doesn't work then rename the files like the G1 files... If that doesn't work then you're out of luck and I can't do much more to help... Good luck though and please let us know if you pulled it off ;)

A little quirk I've experienced with going back to Graffiti 1 on my TJ37.
I use the bullet character a lot. On my OS4 T665 it was the extended shift (back slash) and then a tap (like for a period). When I do that now that I reinstalled Graffiti 1, I get the Y symbol with the two dashes through it (sorry, I don't know what it's called).
I'm using FontHack V but even when I disable FontHack competely, I still get the same results.
Anybody else have this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks.
BTW, I created a shortcut and pasted the bullet symbol into it, so I can still enter the bullet but I have to use the shortcut which takes a little longer.
In fact, on further examination, I notice that none of the symbols work with the extended shift. Could this really just be my problem or is anyone else seeing it? Thanks again.

I did this on my "new" (refurb) TJ35 (lost my SJ22 to a hard floor at a sushi joint, sob.) Very cool. Except...
Does anyone else have some odd behavior coming from the punctuation dot? If I tap it quickly like I'm used to, it flickers but doesn't register... then I start holding it down longer... eventually it registers, then it's fine for awhile after that? Really strange stuff.

It's almost like it needs to be "trained"... best way to do that seems to be to just open up Memo Pad and rapidly tap repeatedly until periods start appearing. At that point it seems to work fine until hard reset.
I suppose, it's probably to be expected, those files weren't intended for the Clie in the first place.

I'm gonna bump this one with a question.
Can anybody tell me if you can somehow get a Zire31 to revert to Graffiti 1?
I have a friend who suffered brain damage from encephalitis. He loves his old PalmIII. His wife just got him a Zire31 and with his difficulties he is having a hard time with the changes to Graffiti2.
