Hello fellow NR users,

I feel that I'm very lucky to be a owner of NR70 rather than NR70V cos I'm not suffering from those creaky hinge problem at all.
So far I have only heard of NR70V owners having that problem maybe due to the built in camera.

Please feel free to share your views and comment about this.

Ok, yeah, the camera is a gadget...and it probably is the cause of the hinge problem...BUT, it's great for blackmail photos!

I have an NR70 with a creaky hinge, wobbly screen and MS problem, but I wouldn't trade it for anything right now. All it's problems are easy fixes, or if your more adventurous, covered under warranty.

Blackmail!?! LOL!! I am a NR70V user, I LOVE the camera and have never experienced the probs. My guess, they were rough well using the camera, or dropped it in frustration that once again the picture blurred.:D :D :D

Having completely disassembled the hinge area of my NR70V, I can't see why it would be any different to the NR70. If you think about it, why would Sony go to all the trouble and expense of developing and fabricating a completely different set of internal parts for something that is just missing a camera? My assumption is the the NR70 hinge assembly just includes some extra space to the right of it. Sorry I don't buy your theory (but I am having hinge problems).

I've owned both NR70/J (for my wife) and NR70V/G and both have the same hinge problem due to excess open and close of use, and it is normal to get that.

I've opened both units, oil the hinges, covered back and ends well like new. Both my wife and I rely heavily on our Clie and sometimes we have to just re-oil it in order to eliminate hinge noise. Hope this clears up your concerned and it will appear one day of your use.. hee hee

I have an NR70V and, in retrospect, which I had saved a few dollars and bought the NR70. I have had none of the hinge problems that I have seen mentioned here. In fact, I have had no problems with my Clie that weren't of my own creation. I am just finding that I have barely ever used to camera. OK, there have been a few interesting photos taken of an exhibitionist friend, but once the novelty wore off I haven't used the camera since. I have an Epson 750Z and a Sony Cybershot now so the Clie camera is pretty unnecessary for me. I am intrigued by the new higher resolution cameras in the new Clies, but I can't justify the money since I already have two other cameras. When I outgrow my current Clie, my feelings may change, though.

I have an NR70, and have no hinge prob. I'm glad I didn't get a NR70V because, I already have a 2.2 megapixel camera. Anyway I got my NR on ebay for $380 with shipping LAST year! That was a pretty good deal. I figured why pay an extra hundred dolllars for an ok camera, that I'd hardly ever use.

I have had no problems with the hinge on my NR70 since getting it upon its release May 1, 02'. The only problem I have unfortunately experienced was the Memory Stick problem. Sony was good about fixing for me though, and I have not had any other probs.. Even with the NX and the NZ units, I still totally dig my NR70. Dont think I will be upgrading for a while still...

Cheers!

Novaol - what oil did you use to lubricate the hinge of your NR-70?

A lot of us have NR70V and no hinge noise. Maybe it's because our NR70Vs are relatively new and noise comes later. Anyway, even if we do get the hinge noise (hopefully not) there are solutions to it.

And since we are on a topic of comparing NR70 to NR70V I have a question to you guys. Do you think the battery drains faster on NR70V than on NR70??? I have noticed that my boyfriend's 70 lasts longer than my 70V.

Am I the only NR70 user with the creaky hinge?

If you are taking pictures, I would say definitely, if you aren't taking pictures I think you might be having a battery problem.
