Not sure why but my NX70 has crashed and I had to restore from a back up.

Throughout the back up I declined to overwrite newer files but now I find that all my addresses to-do's and diary entries have disappeared.

If I hotsync will everything on the desktop be copied back to the NX70 or will I lose everything backed up to the desktop already? What should I do?

Thanks

I lost everything on my desktop when this happened :(

Copy all the stuff on the computer into microsoft word or something

then hotsync.

Or try to change the settings in hotsync manager you might be able to set it to overwrite clie instead of clie overwriting pc?

1. don't panic
2. make another copy of your user directory on the pc to another directory.
3. do the hotsync. If it screws up, copy the saved copy back to the original place, and then do another hotsync with the "desktop overrides handheld option set"

Allow the backup to oversrite newer files. After a hard reset, the Clie will create new databases for addressbook, to do, etc. They are empty databases. So by allowing the backup set (from the PC or your MS) to overwrite the neweer files, you are actually restoring what you lost.

One note, though. If your NX starts losing it again, you should suspect that something in the backup set may be corrupt. In that case, you would want to do another hard reset, copy your backup folder to another location and delete it from the Sony Handheld/[username] forder and do another hotsynch to only restore the main info from addressbook, to do, etc. Then you would want to reinstall the apps you use one or two at a time, test and repeat the procedure. After you have the NX wroking as you like it, do a last hotsynch, do your backups and then delete the original backup folder your moved earlier.

Looks like the first Hotsync worked! Most of the data seems to be back on the NX.

FWIW I have no idea why this happened - I used the NX late last night to enter a few to-do's and then listened to some music before turning in like I always do. The first hotsync stalled this morning so I had to soft reset and then when I attempted to hotsync again the NX went into (I assume) a hard reset. Oh and I haven't installed any apps for weeks, btw.

Anything in there that looks suspicious to anyone?

Thanks to all of you for your help.

Stuff happens; these are computers, after all.

No handheld should go "into a hard reset". You must perform a hard reset on purpose, which will completely wipe out everything in your unit and return to to the state it was in when you first took it out of the box. Sometimes your Clie might freak out and there is nothing you can do to stabilize it. A hard reset is a swift kick in the pants and puts the unit right.
