While using the NX70, it got stuck (things can happen). Power switch doesnt
turn it off anymore, as a result I have to soft-reset it. Guess what I
discover after it wakes up, ALL CONTENT WIPED and as CLEAN as it can get.
Thank God ! I have backup on the PC, but it happened to me twice. Just
image, if you are on a business trip and it happens again.......

Does this overcome you as well ?!

This happened to me 2 days ago, luckily I had done an MS backup an hour before.

All I did was soft-reset via the reset hole in the back, none of the other buttons were depressed.

Happenned to me whilst mucking with the AudioPlayer. Locked, and all was gone after a simple reset. I'd backed up a few days earlier but was still disappointed at the occurance.

I've had this happen twice and I think that BrainForest was the culprit (another user reported the same thing and BrainForest was the only app we had in common.

Other people have reported this as well and only by listing the apps installed (and run recently) can we narrow down which one is causing the problem.

At last I have registered.

Being the starter of this thread, I've forgotton to mention that I was using screen / still capture just before my NX70 hung.

It's happened several times before, without warning. None of the apps mentioned above had anything to do with it. One reason why I keep multiple backups on several memory sticks. My last one happened right after a HotSync and it was locked up. As soon as I hit reset, whamo, it was all over!

Make sure you have the most recent version of HRCaptDA. I had problems on my NX until the most recent version (1.77)

I was doing a soft reset (pressing up button while powering up) which is not supposed to wipe out data. Well, it wiped it out! And twice already the system date and time have been set to Jan 1 12:00. Not cool. Hope this doesn't happen with increasing frequency. Moral of the story: make backups regularly!

To do a soft reset, just poke the reset hole on the back of the unit- don't hit the power or up buttons.

To hard reset and wipe out all data, press the reset button while holding the power button, then press the up button to confirm the hard reset.

I've had a problem twice now with Docs to Go... the program freezes whenever I go over 133 kb for a word document, then a soft reset (I know the difference between the two) results in what one would expect from a hard reset. it's particularly annoying because my clie will start the little introduction in the middle of history- complete with music. I just tell my teacher it's angry at me and he says to make the sound again because he "wasn't aware that tricorders could make music."

anyway, it's really annoying because I write my notes in graffiti and... well... nobody wants to buy them then. Therefore, no wifi anytime soon.

anyone else have this problem?

I have unexpectedly lost my data several times with the nx70v. There does not seem to be any pattern to its occurrence. I once accidentally seemed to trigger a hard reset by "double" pressing the reset button before it could finish its "cycle" during a soft reset. I do not think these spontaneous hard resets are related to a particular installed program. I believe that the Sony software is "buggy" and suffers from "Sony schizophrenia" - the machine equivalent of human psychosis. The typical data loss progression is a "fatal" alert that requires soft reset. A simple poke is the back will lead to total installed data loss and the (un)Welcome screen. To further complicate this the MS backup will sometimes not "recognize" the stored data and refuse to "restore". This then requires a labor intensive "hand" restoration. I have found that this seems to occur after I have installed and un-installed many programs (particularly launchers). I have come to dread the screen of "woe" that sometimes emerges after an unsuccessful soft reset. You know that screen its the one that just blinks and even with repeated soft resets just continues to loop back on itself. It is always an adventure with a Sony. Yesterday I spent hours getting the machine "just" right. I made a scribal error and openned a launcher that required more memory than I had and it crashed the system. When I soft-reset it looped back to fatal error message screen endlessly. I tried the old standby of a soft-reset with the up button pressed and was finally able to get back into the apps screen. I should have stopped then while I was ahead - but for me wisdom and PDA's do not mix. My final soft-reset with the up button depressed really "depressed" me. All data lost and a memory stick back up that was not recognized. I called it a day. Man vs. Machine. Machine won.

Well, I could not find this library on my nx70....

This question just comes to mind. Will the content also be wiped if we leave our nx drain its battary completely ? It happends to my Vx.

And why can't they use flash ram (correct me if I am wrong) or some sort of backup battery to maintain the content. It's the ram used in the good old Newtons 2100 (sorry I have to say this, but I still have a couple of them) As you can leave thme in the closet for YEARS wihout losing any content !

And yes, a dead battery would cause you to lose all your information. I would recommend you charge your NX at least once a day. The battery will last longer that way than if you let it discharge completely. And backing up to card is probably a good idea . . . keep it with you.
