I think that the TG50 is definately worth the extra 50 bucks... Things that you get with the TG50 compared the TE or T3 from palm... This is a short list.

MSBACKUP <- You have to buy a backup card from palm or download 3rd party software

MOVIEPLAYER <- Sure palm ships Kinoma with their devices, but the producer only encodes low quality video unless you buy the uprade. With TG50 putting movies on your device is simple, and they look and sound great.

MIDI SOUNDS/ALARMS <- Palm cannot compete... Much better choices for the Clie

MP3 - Sure the palm does have some better options, however I think that overall sound quality definately goes to the Clie.

Anyhow, I don't want to get too far into this, those were the compeling reasons that I left the TT3 from palm to the less expensive TG50. I like the quality that Sony offers, they actually you Glass over their LCD, my Palm TT3 used some type of plastic, because if you pushed just a tad to hard, you would get the rainbow effect. To each their own, I love my TG50 --- Just wish that it had more Ram.

Except... I will admit that Sony sacrificed Quality with the TJ line... I feel real bad for all of you Clie members that got hosed with defective backlights as well as defective jog wheels...

T|E with MMplayer, shareware, probably has the most multimedia capabilities. Also it can support OGG.

TG is good if you want bluetooth.

I had researched the TJ35 and was all set to buy it at Best Buy today when they said all TJ35's had been "recalled". I have since heard it was because of the backlite problem. Then I noticed Circuit City had the 35 advertised so I called them. They, too, said the 35's had been recalled but that they were offering the TG50's for the same $249 price plus the $30 rebate. They were supposed to have a free case, also, but, conveniently for them, they were all out. Anyway, I now have the TG50 for $219 but I bought the 2 year service contract for $55. Now I need to find a source for games and what do I need for reading Word files?
Thanks

To READ word files you already have PICSEL viewer. You cant modify files but I find it useful for reading .doc, .xls, .pdf files etc.
PICSEL is in the launcher but has a 'unique' interface which is best learnt by exploring :-)

I bought my TG50 with no regrets... after the 505... I am staying away from all palms handhelds ... not keen on their fonts also.

my favourite TG50 feature is how easy it is to load movies and music... the keyboard is pretty awsome too... back to srjane's comment about great sites to go for free ware .. any reccomendations?

Since everyone on this site is so sharp I'll just cut through the fluff and get to the point. I need a class or a forum on "How to free ram by better utilization of your Memory Stick".

I was spoiled by the TJ35 memory capacity, but I think I can get over it with a better understanding of using my MS. I'm willing to learn the proper memory management skills required to accomplish this goal.

I'm using Zlauncher and Flyzip, but I need to acquire a better understanding on how to store program databases along with the programs on my MS, ie Wordsmith+ Spell database. Zlauncher itself uses quite a bit of ram.

I think alot of us Clie users could use a compiled list of pointers on this subject.

When storing programs and databases on a MS which is the proper directory to use, Palm Dir. or tha Launcher Dir.?

I understand that only fixed databases should be stored on the MS.

Thank you all for your infinite wisdom!

Merry Christmas

First off, download and install all the Clie updates. Yes, I know this takes up a lot of space, but just do it. Install ZLauncher (with a theme!), but don't do anything yet.

Install programs to RAM like normal, but don't run any of them. Open ZLauncher and go to each program you want on the card, and tap and hold the icon. A menu will come up. Tap 'Move to card' and when it asks if you want to make a shortcut, tap yes. Repeat as many times as neccesary.

If you want them to show up on the Clie Launcher screen and dont want to deal with ZLauncher, when you install apps you will need to tell the install app to install them to MS. Note that some apps such as Netfront only work the ZLauncher way on the MS, and that some apps, such as Clie Mail, dont work on MS at all.

Wouldn't the glass break much easier than the plastic? I know that I've dropped my handheld a number of times, and I've been lucky because nothing has been damaged, but I have to wonder how the glass screen would hold up to the shock of a drop as opposed to a plastic screen.

This site shows you what happens to dropped glass-digi PDAs:

http://www.palminfocenter.com/graveyard.asp

Hasn't been updated in ages, though ...

The actual material of the digitizer backing does not matter (SJ-33 is plastic - no rainbow) - the problem lies in the THICKNESS of it - Palm had to cram a lot of stuff in the T|T3, thus forcing them to use a thinner digitizer unit. Now, if the thin sheet of flexible plastic was glass, as suggested above by Jayman, it would almost certainly break under any kind of pressure, due to the brittleness of glass ...
