Pocket PC Thoughts (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=78325#78325) is reporting that Epocrates is developing a version for the PPC platform. This is big news b/c Epocrates is seen as die-hard PalmOS app that has helped the growth of PalmOS pdas in the medical pda segment. I'm not sure if I'ld agree that Epocrates is a "killer app" as stated in PPCTs, but it certainly is big news for the PPC platform that such an important PalmOS medical app will soon be available for its OS. Will the availability of epocrates on PPC sway anyone here to switch to a PPC pda? Any thoughts?

I wouldn't rate epocrates as a 'killer app' (unless you are low on memory!!! :)
The app that would prove useful on Palm but is already out on PPC is "Up To Date". The program alone consumes 800Mb on a PPC RAM (yes - a friend of mine bought a PPC plus a 1G card to do this).

I doubt you'd be able to cram 800Mb onto a SD/MMC ... least of all - a Memory Stick!

I'll give up my Clié N-seriesV when they pry it from my cold, dead hands.  . . . or when a PPC has a better camera for less money with built-in Palm emulation!

I was a diehard pocketpc user for 4-5 years and switched to Palm for the seeming abundance of med software and the supposed ease of use. Plus I liked the camera on NX70V for sending movies of my baby to parents.

Only after switching did I notice that a lot of stuff for the Palm was now being made available to the Pocket PC! The up to date really ticked me off, actually since the majority of platform specific apps were being made for Palm one year ago.

Also, the resolution of the camera is no where near good enough to publish in journals (the NZ is a different story). Of course, I knew that before I bought it anyway.

I also haven't noticed that things are any easier with Palm than they are with the Pocket PC. Supposedly, the interface is easier, but I haven't noticed a big difference. In fact, running apps off the card was a little easier, I thought.

Ah the irony...

Still, I don't regret my decision. It seems the line between Pocket PC and Clie's are starting to blur, and Clie's definitely still have a couple of advantages. Up To Date mentioned that it didn't think that any palms had near enough memory to handle all of that data, but I think they are unaware of the 1 GB Memory sticks that will be available this year.
