Does anyone have any experience with the stylus offered by EB Cases called the iPointPen-NX?

http://www.ebcases.com/Detail.bok/d8c8e03cf34f0effc0fc?&category=Sony+Clie+PEG-NX60%2FNX70V&start=1&total=10&no=198

It doesn't have a floating tip (!), but it does have a reset pin and an ink pen. I desperately need to replace the stock stylus. I'm leaning towards the Innopocket stylus, but before I buy I'd like to know your thoughts on the iPointPen-NX if you have experience with it.

Thanks in advance.

I believe that's the stylus I'm using, although I think I bought it from Brando. It works fine and of course has a pen in the top end. You're right that it has no "floating tip" which is unfortunate. But in this it is no worse than the stylus that came with the NX.

Pardon me for my ignorance, but what is a "floating tip" and what advantages does it provide?

A floating tip gives you a softer feel while writing. It makes it kinda feel like using a ball-point pen on a pad of paper. Gives you a little pressure. I had a floating tip stylus for my Visor and it really did improve my accuracy. It's the type of thing that you won't know how good it is until you've used one for a while. I still miss it, and don't like the solid tap I get from my NX stylus.

I used to use the Pentopia floating tip with my IIIx, it had a pen and reset pin. I have not heard of any NX floaters and settled on the Innnopocket stylus. It does not compare to the Pentopia but it has a pen and a reset pin which is a little large but functional. I rate it a 6 out of 10. (They do not make a gray for us gunmetal users)

I am using a stylus I purchased when I had my NR70V. I purchased it from PDA Panache. It does not have a pen, unfortunately, but it is longer than the standard stylus (yet still fits in my NX's slot) and heavier. Both these features make it feel much better in my hand. Here's the link:

I just got my stylus from Brando and it does have a floating tip and pen and reset pin.  It doesn't feel as secure in the silo as I'd like.  I also have the Innnopocket, I think, and like it's weight and feel, but it doesn't have a floating tip.

Thank you all for your comments.

You know, I just don't understand why companies like Pentopia and Landware have not made styli for the NX with floating tips. I, too, had a Pentopia with my Palm IIIxe and *loved* it. Landware has a nice one, too, but I wrote them and they don't plan to produce one for the NX. Why????

Me too. I got the Stylus from Brando with a floating point but it is so sturdy that it feels like you don't have one. I like the Innopocket Metal Style much better in terms of the weight and material. It feels more quality and heavier. The non-floating point feel the same like the Brando's, I guess I am a totally unsensitive guy to floating point.

I decided to buy the Innopocket stylus. Although the weight of it is a noticeable improvement over the stock stylus, the tip is disappointing. I compared it to my old Pentopia, and there is no comparison. Floating tips provide great feel. I sorely wish we'd get one (other than the one offered by Brando) for the NX. :(

Brando is an exporter of mainly Japanese items for tech stuff. Excellent customer service!

I bought one of the many many PEN+Stylus combo things that are the shape of a pen and have the Stylus option. I will never go back to using a stick stylus after this. I love the feel, the weight and I can write 20x faster with it.

I did have the innopocket stylus set before this though, it was nice.

I also prefer a full size pen/stylus combo. The feel is MUCH MUCH better. With the styli that fit in the silo, I feel like I'm trying to use a piece of uncooked spaghetti to write with! I just bought a Papermate PhD combo with pen/pencil/stylus and a nice molded rubber grip. This is much more comfortable than a skinny little stick. Cost about $6.95 at Staples.

My wife has a blue and gold Cross pen/stylus. Very elegant, and not quite as fat as some of the other combo pens. No floating tip but she likes it better than the rubber gripped versions. Bought it for about $20 at Staples.

I basically use the skinny stylus in the silo only if I can't find my big pen-like stylus.

Personally I still believe the best stylus made was the Nail for the PPP. But I purchased one of the metal stylus for the NX and the weight of the damn thing would make it come loose and I lost it four times...the last time for good!

I'm a huge supporter of Stylus/Pens because of the excellent business look they are coming in now. With some pens it's hard to tell.

But my current work-around is using a PDAIR case from Brando (The best leather case I've found for under $50!) and I use my old 760 Pentopia housed in the built in stylus holder. So incase I lose one I always have my backup.

Just my $.02,
Serena

Yeah, I am so disappointed with the Innopocket stylus I purchased, that I rarely use it. When I'm in the office, I use my Cross pen-turned-stylus. I had a old Cross pen lying around that I never used, so I bought a stylus refill for it from Styluscentral.com. It makes a great stylus! I just wish I could get a stylus this good that fits into my NX!

Pentopia.... Landware... where are the NX styli??

I got a stylus refill from Stylus Central too, and converted my absolute favorite writing instrument from ink/ink/pencil to stylus/ink/pencil, and I couldn't be happier. (I get style points for the brushed silver colored pen matching the NX70V case color!) And the orange stylus tip is a great visual cue that I actually have the correct point out BEFORE I write on the screen. (I call it "Idiot Insurance".)

What stylus/pen combo do you have? I use one of the old style Rotrings...the ones what used to cost $100 (grumble) and now you can get for $30.

Don't like the pencil inserts because the plunger is so high it looks a little weird. Anyone know of a twist style multiuse one?

Thanks, Serena

Yeah, Wolfsmoke, what is the name of the instrument you are using. The reason I only use my cross pen-turned-stylus at the office is b/c I have only one of them and b/c given its just a stylus I see no reason to carry it around. But if I could have a stylus/ink/pencil like you have, I'd love to buy one. I have an extra stylus refill lying around....

What the name and where did you get it?

Thanks,

Wolfsmoke

Might have been nice if I'd mentionned the name, huh? Sorry about that! It's a "Staedtler Multi-3" (model 9115, it would appear). I got it at Staples for about $10, and it comes loaded with red & black ink, along with 0.7mm lead. I replaced the red with the stylus. Most Staples also sell Staedtler refills (they are short lil' things) for the ink end of things, including one set that had black, red & blue multipack. (Options are your friend.)

StylusCentral.com has a bunch of multipoints, including several twist mechanism multipoints. And they have terrific customer service!

And no, I neither work for Stylus Central nor know anyone who does! I just thought they were great!

Thanks for the insight, I'll check them out on my day off. I guess I'm a little surprise Staples would have it but then again I don't go to staples much.

You know the best stylus I ever had was a give-a-way a company threw into the box. It was a little thinner than a Bic pen but it was only a stylus-a full sized pen stylus. I loved it and when someone wanted to try out my Clie I handed them that. I had to go and break off the tip one day try to pry out a stupid staple but I wish I remember where I got it from. I'd order 100 with my name and info (consultant) on them and just give 'em away.

Thanks for the info and I'll get back to y'all (virginny accent coming back now) with what I bought.

Love ya,
Serena

PS: Purely in a platonic way of course.

PDA Panache has those. http://www.pdapanache.com/nf_cat.asp?C=10  about 2/3 of the way down the page.

Dang... why do I know these things?

I bought this stylus / pen combo at Comdex last year (Nov2002) and I really haven't liked it that much - its useful as an emergency pen, but to have to go through the hassle of popping off the cap covering the pen just to use the pen, and then popping it back on, I feel its getting loose now after excessive use.

I carry a 4-in-1 combo pen - similar to the Belkin 4-in-1 PDA Stylus Pen; Red/Black Ink; Pencil; Stylus

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000059Z6N/002-0950869-8524009?vi=pdablast-20

I bought a (2) pack at Costco for $19.95, and use this combo a whole lot more than this replacement pen stylus combo. YMMV.

Be aware of some potential problems if you purchase a stylus/pen combination that has the removable top to reveal the pen. Some people have complained of the cap coming off when removing the stylus from the NX60/70 and then having difficulty removing the remainder of the stylus from the CLIE.
The stylus is held in the NX60/70 with a detent deep inside the CLIE so if the cap comes off the stylus is still tightly held in the unit.
Now that being said, I have used one of these type of stylus/pen combos with no problems for the past 4 months.
