I have exam tomorrow , so I am too afraid to mess up spending too much time with my UX50...it is soooo tempting to play with.
has anyone tried applying this T3 rotating patch ?
(use at your own risk, make sure you backup your memory)
Emulator doesn't work with this patch, since patch can not be applied to emulator rom, isn't it ?

I just wonder if this files can enable rotating UX50..though one thing for sure, the Graffiti area will still be in horisontal mode
anyway, let's bombard Sony with emails asking them to release patch for rotating the screen (or enabling option for it) including fix for Decuma, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.. it's really difficult to write Graffiti in portrait mode

I don't really have a problem with grafitti on my UX, but I mainly use the keyboard for text entry of any length. And honestly, after using the UX for a while I don't see any need for portrait mode. I like reading in portrait mode but pretty much all the readers can already do it, and Acidimage works beautifully with the UX as most image viewers now do. So why bother?

The landscape mode doesn't bother me at all. And I NEVER use anything but the keyboard for text entry.

These files supposedly allow programs written for the T3 to use up the entire screen, not rotate. Supposedly they work on the UX50, but most programs just aren't written for the landscape view yet.

yeah, you all are right, it didn't work,....
I apologize for troubling you all....
I like landscape view too, but it is difficult (unstable) to enter graffiti also Decuma ..
and honestly, I hate the way Zaurus promoter rotates the screen and shows something that UX50 can't...
(let's push Sony to release new rom for UX50, at least the rom should equal to T3 ! )

I agree the UX "should" be able to be used in portrait mode. I'm not sure I would use it all that much except for grafitti and maybe a quik note. And, I did buy the UX because it was Landscape to begin with. But dammit, I wan't the choice ok! :)
I personally don't miss portrait mode .. as I don't miss portrait mode on my laptop :-)

HUGE Difference! Laptops don't use graffitti. Applications made for the PC are in landscape mode where as PDA's are mostly ALL designed in portait mode.

Portrait mode was a compromise for the handheld form factor, and was fine for PIM functionality, but as our handhelds take over more and more of the functionality once only available on laptops the landscape orientation becomes neccessary again.

Can we get over the debate about whether we "miss" portrait mode and just see if we can do it ourselves or get Sony to do it? I mean, isn't it better to have it and not use it than not have it?
I personally think that portrait mode might be nice in some circumstances, and a general screen flipping program that allowed 360 rotation regardless of screen position would be a great thing to have. And whether or not I'd actually use it, I want to have it so I can at least see if I would!

I personally don't see any need for portrait mode on UX50. what for ? name an application that is far superior in portrait use then in landscape ?

Well, I'd disagree with that, since I believe that most programs are designed with a square interface as the basis (160x160 or 320x320), not portrait/landscape mode, as it's relatively new in comparison, and the majority of Palm users are still using square screen based devices. :) Added portrait/landscape functionality is more driven end user demands and the proliferation of devices that use such modes. Since the UX is the first Palm OS device that is landscape oriented, support for it and the T3's landscape are going to be behind that of portrait users, as it's been around for a while.
I would imagine that upgrading directly from a hi res (320x320) device directly to the landscape UX would be a less jarring experience than those who are used to portrait devices.
I just hope that with OS 6, there will be a new dynamic screen driver, in that ANY device will be able to rotate the display, using a unified display driver, as opposed to the hodge podge that exists right now (and hopefully in the future Sony will capitulate to that as well, just as they seem to have done by using the Palm sound API in their latest devices).
If they're really forward thinking, then a single API should theoretically drive anything from 160x160 to 640x480 (or beyond) devices in either orientation, without a major performance hit on the CPU. It would be even more interesting if said API, by default, allowed display out to external monitors (maybe with an enhanced cradle) or something along those lines.
Then again, I may be dreaming a bit, and have gone kinda OT as well. :)

congrats on your UX50 orol!!:D
I think the only thing I would need portrait mode would be to use Decuma, which I don't find that I use that often.
Other than that, most programs look awesome in landscape.
Plus in portrait mode the screen is so small it doesn't show enough text (in my opinion) per line to be useful.

I noticed Picsel has a portrait mode. Kind of cool. Maybe a utility that does that or developers adding that as an option is the solution

Picsel Viewer developers added screen rotation utility since NX-series. That utility helps NX user read and review their powerpoint files better than portrait mode.
Has anyone mailed Sony yet? :)
or should we make a petition for it ? ;)
