Does anyone know how to get more sound out of the SJ30? I just bought one after years of Palms and Visors. I have the System Sound, Alarm Sound, and Game Sound all set to high, and can barely hear anything during games or an alarm. These system/game sounds are noticeably lower that the Palms and Visors I have owned.
Thanks

I have to agree with you on this one. Low sounds and my Palm m130 played movies better WITH sound.
But this has a much better screen.
Oh well.

A hardware mod might work, but would be risky. I've actually considered cracking my SJ30 open and see what I can do about the speaker volume.

I scoured the Internet when I was considering my SJ30 on this issue, since I was using a Handera, whcih probably has the loudest speaker volume in a PDA. I did not find any answer, so I'm living with the wimpy volume of the SJ30.
You can get the audio adapter (SA10) which I would think would increase headphone volume, but beyond that, I don't think you can alter the built-in speaker/volume.

I'm guessing you guys know that the SJ30 doesn't have polyphonic audio...

Dear T1000x,
If you happen to find the hardware modification on the speaker for SJ30, please let me know. I am desperate to get one. Thanks.

A group of people in the link below seem to have a solution. The posts are in Chinese, but you may figure out what to do from the photo shots there. I am not connected with them in any way. Good luck.

Well, those Chinese forum posts are actually quite useful. The only problem is that I can't figure out what speaker they are adding for the life of me.
If any of you knows, tell me, and I'll write up a nice how-to guide for the SJ20 and SJ30.

You're ahead of me...I couldn't figure out which image/page actually showed the speaker!
I ran the page through Babelfish translation, and that helped a bit...but if you've ever tried that, the results can be...a bit bizarre? Here's one message in the thread, translated as Babelfish did:
"Looks like does not need to disassemble?
These charts shrink very clearly to 50% all, goes to the bathroom with the cat. "
The cat? What does this have to do with the cat? (ROFL)

They're adding a speaker. If you've ever opened your Clie SJ20/30, the 'speaker' is in the form of a small chip that produces rather low sound.
They're adding a powered speaker of some kind that uses three wires; one is for signal, one for voltage, and one for ground.
I'm wondering if this has any effect on battery life, though it shouldn't be a big issue. I need to find the speaker, however.

Looks like it consists of a small board, piezo buzzer, transistor, diode, and some resistors and he has shrink wrapped it all.
The transistor is probably the amplifer.
Makes much more sense when you d/l the pics and view them in a smaller window.
Anyway, I would be afraid to undertake it myself, but I know a guy who might be able to help. This looks like it would work great.

O.k. who's the techie god that's going to figure this out?
Are all of the the mods in China and Japan? - no market here in the US for flashing buttons, etc? But I would rush to buy a better aftermarket speaker so that the alarm will actually wake me up like my Palms and Visors. A PDA is not just about the screen!
May have to move to the SJ33 with a vibrating alarm....:D

Give me a week and I should have this figured out. I'm a bit bogged down by my studies, but once finals are past, I should be able to hammer this out in a few hours.
I agree that the speaker is a major problem with these Clies. I had no idea they were so quiet when I bought my SJ20 . . . I was so used to the sound from my friend's Palm M100.

Hi guys,
I have e-mailed the guy who post the message in the e-choice forum regarding the speaker modification. He informed that I could use the alamer/ ringer from the used mobile phone.
If anyone here have tested this mod, please share. Thanks!
