ok...for those of you who have had that adapter which comes with the clie (or at least mine came with one) i wanted to know if a cradle is more consistant and reliable. if some1 bought a cradle plz just tell me which is better or if theres no difference. i'm just thinking the engineering and stuff may be better in the cradle( and the cradle has that ultra cool hotsync button :D )

Well you really can't compare because cable is made for travel and the cradle is more for stationary use I think they both serve their purposes well.

cl0991, durability-wise, of course a cradle is much better. But u need to pay extra to get it. However I think it's well worth it. Also with a cradle and adapter, I can keep one at home for charging purpose and cradle I kept in the office for hot syncing and charging. :)

Charging is intermittent with my SJ30 cable. Bought a cradle and there are zero problems. Also it's a lot easier to use the Clie while charging in the cradle.

There is one more thing - I got electric shock from the lil' screws on my SJ-30 and the case is worst with SJ-33.
So using a cradle to charge will definitely lessen the chance of you getting this nasty electric shock if u wanna use ur Clie during charging. :)

The new UC55 cradle looks cool, and no more obnoxious tab thing, just slide your CLIE right in :)

Any idea why they build the built-in speaker so low that it is completely blocked by the cradle when it is sitting in the cradle?

Third-party cable is best! Charges via USB (no AC adapter) and has Hotsync button built-in.

Both of course.

But... but... You can't say "both". Both wasn't an option... you'll skew the data. How can "both" be tabulated??? This is *worse* than a hanging chad!!! What are we going to do???

*Looks up* But both IS an option! :)

Oh, we have a *re-count*!!!
But Al (Gore) was only looking at the question, not the POLL!!! Al demands a re-count, and requests the court to throw out the poll, and base the decision on the original question, as it was written in text form.... okay?
We need "consistency" here...

The cradle clearly wins the popular vote.... of course that isn't important.

Well, now... let's look at the ballot...
"Cradle is BETTER"
"Adapter is FINE"
I think the ballot is too hard to understand. Does "fine" mean better, or just fine? Is the ballot leading, by inserting better with the cradle vote, and excluding it with the adapter? Does "fine" mean "good enough to get a Hotsync done", or not?
I think we need to spend a few million dollars and come up with a more confusing electronic voting system that fewer non-techies will be able to understand. Then, we can all re-vote on the new system, and see how that comes out. If it still leans in favor of the cradle, we need to come up with another "more fair" system which will skew the vote in my favor.
Well? Any takers? Can't I at least get "the inventor of the internet" to side with me?

Where can we find such a cable, I would like one when I travel with my notebook. :D
But if I dun have my notebook, that means I can't charge it too, right?

Some come with a cigarette lighter adapter, which accepts the USB end of the cable - therefore, you can also charge it in your car.
I got my USB cable on eBay for around $6 (plus shipping). I didn't expect it to even have a Hotsync button... but it did. If you don't like buying on eBay, just do a Google search for "usb cable clie" (no quotes) and you'll come up with dozens of places selling similar cables.

Good luck on that appeal! ;)
I agree with the others. Both are fine.
I personally enjoy the cradle better on my desk, and the cable stays packed up for travel, as you would expect.
That new cradle is sexy as all get-out.
It looks like one could even drill a hole to allow full speaker-age as well!

After buying the UC55 cradle (and having one for a long time with my old VX), i can say that the cradle is a must for all of us who wants comfort. It's so easy just to come to the office and "drop" the clie on the cradle, instead of "hooking" the thing...
I would put my vote on "both", as we in most cases "sync" in two places, so the cardle at the office, and the cable at home (or travel) is the best solution. I wish that sony would consider to put the cradle on the clie box, and let us buy the cable as the optional accesorie ;o)

I'm sure they'd be happy to do it - and then they'd raise the price of the Clie $50...
I'd rather have the choice of spending an extra $50 on a cradle, over having no choice and being forced to pay more for a Clie.
...just another way to look at it... you can't expect Sony to include a cradle, and not charge you for it.

My favorite part of the cradle is being able to sync without having to navigate to the sync app. Just push the button and walk away. It syncs and is ready for you when you get back with your coffee or what have you.
Oh, and I like how it holds my Clié up so I can actually look at the screen while I'm sitting at my desk, then pick it up and walk off when I need to do my rounds or help out a client.

My third-party USB charge/sync cable ($6 on eBay) has a button on it as well. Just push it and walk away. No bulky AC adapter to plug in either - it draws power from the USB port! I also like having my SJ sitting flat on the desk, because I can use it while it is plugged in. I can pick it up and hold it in my hand, or write on it while it lays flat on my desk, all while it is plugged in and charging. I would think it would be very hard to write an appointmet or phone number at the angle the cradle holds the Clie at.
So... for now, I'm happy just having a cable.

I dun mind them raising the price a bit because I think a cradle is almost indipensible. But for those truly mobile ones, then this is not ideal. They would rather not pay extra $50 for a cradle which they dun need. Just my two cents. ;)
