I was messing around with IR configuration on my pc and fouled something up.  Any help would be appreciated.

I have a NX60 and I'm running under WinXP.  Since my 'screw up', I get the following mesage every time the Hot Sync Manager tries to start:

"The HotSync Manager was unable to initialize the TCP/IP connection socket.   Please check your Network Configuration from the Windows Control Panel.  Male sure you have a TCP/IP network component installed and configured correctly."

I can click OK and the message goes away, and the HotSync works finbe, but the message is downright annoying.

I checked what I could and even tried to add new network configs and can't seem to get it.

Anyone? Thanks in advance.

right click on the hotsync manager, then go into settup, then click on the network tab, and make sure your name is not checked off, that should fix the problem.

I tried that as well as reconfiguring the other settings (comlete with restarts each time) and nothing there makes the error go away. thanks though.

Bump.
I'm bumping this in case someone out there has any thoughts (who didn't see it before).

Maybe someone who has XP can tell me...when you open your "Network Connections" window, do you have any other categories besides 'LAN or High-Speed Internet', and if so, what's listed.

Thanks.

To use the USB cradle with my Clie, I have the Local USB option selected (checked) on the menu when I right-click the Hotsync Manager icon in my system tray.  If you have the Network option checked this may be causing your inability to hotsync.

Hope this helps.

Try uninstalling Palm Desktop for Clie then reinstalling it (after a reboot of course). Maybe that will help.

Hi all,
I had the same pb today and post my fix for future users sake.
My config : Acer TM800 with XP home.
My handheld : Palm Vx and palm desktop 4.1.4 on the laptop
- I tried to reinstall palm desktop with no luck.
- I deinstalled infrared device, rebooted and it had detected it and reinstalled it again on its own. Then the infrared menu was back in hotsync and problem was gone.

Hope it might help in the future.

Hey, don't know if you or anyone else is searching for a solution but here it is:

1. Backup your data onto your Palm
2. Use Add/Remove programs to uninstall Palm Desktop software.
4. Delete the original Palm folder found at c:/Program Files/Palm
5. Go to the Start Menu and go to RUN
6. Type in regedit (only delete the items in line 10 below!! Do not delete anything else)
7. Expand the Current User folder
8. Expand the Software folder
9. Expand the U.S Robotics folder
10. Delete the Palm Quick Install and the Pilot Desktop folders
11. Click 'File' and 'Exit'
12. Reboot the system
13. Re-install Palm Desktop and you're golden.

If you've never been in regedit before you might want someone who has to do the editing for you.
