I'm quite new at all this DVD conversions...so don't laugh if I sound ignorant. Just point me in the right direction. I've read some comments in some threads that you need DVDx and TMPGenc to convert DVDs into Mpegs. I really do not understand what TMPGenc does as I was able to encode a DVD using DVDx and able to convert it onto my NX70V for viewing. Could somebody explain what it does. The only thing that I can think of is that you could probably use it for editing....eg editing out credits.

To convert DVD to pda, you first need a DVD ripper to get the dvd files to your computer hard drive, DVDDecrypter is a great free dvd ripper.

Then you need to get those DVD files to a format convertable to your PDA. I use Kinoma which likes mpg1 for conversions. The newer clies have other programs to covert so I do not know what those prefer.

You can check out www.dvdrhelp.com to learn how to convert DVD files to workable formats like mpg1. You can download freeware from there that will do it.

DVD2AVI is free and puts the dvd files into a file which can be edited and re-encoded to any other format (mpg1, 2, AVI, etc) using TMPGEnc (which also has a free version).

Thats the thing. I was able to encode a DVD using the programme DVDx onto my Laptop. I then used Image Converter to transfer it onto my Clie NX70V. What I was asking was what does TMPGEnc do cause I did not really need it?
