I thought I would drop by and let everyone know that a plan on launching Pocketphile to the general public (once again, albeit on a new host) on Friday, February 21. The site will open a few days earlier for registered skinners to that they can upload their works for the launch date.

Please remember that when Pocketphile was deleted, so was all of the databases, including the members database. Everyone who plans on submitting skins will need to re-register once more. You can save some time and re-register now if you like at the Pocketphile (http://www.pocketphile.com) update notice page.

Please remember that you do not need to register with the site in order to download skins. You only need register if you plan on submitting skins.

I should also mention that all the new VB code I had been writing went to the birds as well, not that it would matter considering my new host does not support ASP, so I had to re-write the site from scratch in PHP, a language I did not know how to write until now.

The site will look nothing like it did before, taking a more conservative less flashy (if you could call it flashy to begin with) this time around. If anything, it looks more professional.

The site will NOT support wallpaper uploads at launch. The wallpaper section in Pocketphile's last incarnation didn't seem to be very popular at all considering there is already a massive wallpaper section here at ClieSource. I may or may not decide to work this feature in depending on requests.

Also of note - for reasons of site uniformity, and to help those new to submitting their skins, skinners need only upload the skin archive itself (.ZIP archive of skin file, wallpaper, readme, etc). Skin submitions will not appear on the site the second after they are uploaded like before. They will need to be approved to make sure they do not contain any offensive material. A screenshot of the skin will be created for you during this process.

ROFLOL.. I would hardly call Pocketphile a Pheonix. It was only up for a rather short time, mainly for the "Show Me Some Skin" contest. But, compliments are always welcome.. LOL

Will skins on your site be divided into those for os5 devices and those for below 5? This is a problem elsewhere, because there is no way to distinguish between the two unless the author notes it.

Yes, kinda. One of the options a skinner must select when uploading a new skin is whether or not their archive contains an OS5 Double Density version. This tags the skin in the database as OS5 compliant.

Now here is the "kinda" part. While Pocketphile.com will not, by default, seperate the skins into OS5, High-Res, and Low-Res categories, the Pocketphile thumbnail browser will allow you to set certain filters such as "By Author, By Resolution, and By OS" considering that, as far as I know, The TungstenT and NX units can also display Low-Res graphics.

So while there are not "Seperate Categories" for OS, their is an easy way for you to have the thumbnail browser show you only the types of skins you are interested in, including those that work with OS5 devices.

I should mention that skinners should create both Low-Res, High-Res, and Double Density versions of every skin they upload - Emphasis on the High-Res and Double Density.
