The easies way is to use the AudioPlayer interface...
1.- You need to have the external driver installed on your PC (It must have got installed automatically when you ran the installation CD of your clie).
2.- Place the clie on its cradle and run the audioplayer program on it.
3.- Go to the "options" menu and then select transfer.
4.- The clie is ready to receive music! An external driver icon will apear on your PC inside the "My Computer" window. Just drag & drop the files you want (in MP3 format) and that's it!

Another way.
I use MusicMatch as my MP3 encoder / ripper. I select a group of songs in Musicmatch a "Playlist" then > MSImport on the Palm in the cradle. On Musicmatch > File > Export Playlist tracks > to the Palm / PROGRAMS / MSAUDIO directory. The major advantage for me is MusicMatch Export Playlist tells you how much RAM the playlist will take and how much room you have available on the destination directory.
Man, you had it for that long w/o MP3? You'll feel like having a new toy when you get it to run. Here's how I did it:
1. Install RealJukebox (provided in installation CD ROM) to PC.
2. Rip CD music to 96 kbps Audio Quality (under Tools, Preferences)
3. Put Clie on the cradle.
4. Launch MSImport.
5. Find MSAudio folder in your MS (Windows Explorer will show it as Removable Disk)
6. Drag and drop the MP3s from PC to MS.
That's it.
You can go to the Audio Player and set the enable background play through the Menu and Preferences. Then listen to MP3 while doing something else with the CLIE.

yeah, this works pretty well, but apparently musicmatch
can downconvert files to lower bitrates on the fly
using the send command with directly supported
devices. that would be perfect for keeping high
quality mp3s on the computer and fitting more of them
as 96s on the clie.
how come the clie is about the only
device that is not directly supported??? or is
there maybe a plug-in somewhere?

Just drop your clie in the cradle and click on ms import on your clie. Give your pc a sec and it will recognize your memory stick in your palm as a memory drive. So then just go to my computer and look for it, it will most likely be E: or F: (depends on how many drives you have) then just go to \PALM\PROGRAMS\MSAUDIO and copy and paste your mp3s into here.
I am good on the pc so I can do this really fast.
You just repeated what I said previously.

I think Sean already figure out how to do it... and we are just trying to explain the same thing over and over. Oh well :)

It's a lot easier (and faster) to get a $10.00 Memory Stick reader and copy the .mp3 files into PALM/PROGRAMS/MSAUDIO on the MS.
