Why is password being prompt when Hotsync

I have this friend who tried 2 Hotsync his mail, however was asked for password. Anybody got any idea?

If there is a password on the palm then try unlocking the pda first before hotsyncing. There might be some locked stuff in the PIMs that might require a password to sync. Other than that, I believe there might be a setting in the palm desktop that controlls password protection.
