View Full Version : The Magic Compact Flash Driver
Anyone know anything about this product?
CF Magic 2.0 "allows users of the NX60, NX70 and NZ90 model Clies to seamlessly use the CF slot for memory cards with no need to continuously swap cards or reconfigure the system"

www.PDAscent.com/forums go there, read the posts for your model. If you buy it load it on a clean machine after doing your backups to your computer. You can probably save yourself a lot of headaches as some other programs will have some conflicts. That way you can find them and run them off your MS instead.

No support of NX80 too bad...

Yeah, but the market just isn't worth the time. With the hacked apps and the new line of clies coming out I think PDAscent has better things to do than mess with another driver for the clie. They have several other projects going (according to posts) so it is questionable whether they will bother.

Just got CF Magic 2.0 for my NX73..works pretty well..Have several Konoma movies on a 1GB IBM Micro Drive that work well. Haven't been able to get the audio player to work with the MP3's..it keeps looking for the MS stick...you can sucessfully run both the MS and CF cards together. I have MP3's on the MS stick..and movies on the CF. Worth the $16 I paid for it on www.palmgear.com

ZX7dave, Are you by chance (just nod your head yes or no) running the NX70 prc file on your NX73? Because the CF Magic doesn't work with the NX80 or 73.

Yes..I my mistake...that is exactly what I did...so guess I became a beta tester for the NX73V without realizing it. The good news is that Kimona and Movie Player movies work well with the 1GB IBM Micro Drive...no resets, no crashes. Thanks for catching that cliener.

Wow, that is great. Hmmmm, I save $10.00 if I do that and use the CF Magic. Cheers!

I played around with this some more last night..And The Kimona movies do work great, but the Movie Player movies I am starting to have problems with. Not sure if it is something I am doing wrong or not, but I've only been able to watch one 30 sec clip that I successfully converted over. None of the longer clips seem to work. As most of my conversions are in Kimona I'm still happy mostly. Will keep playing with the movie player formats...and it will not play MP3's thus far, keeps looking for the memory stick. The program Filepoint if you use that doesn't see the CF card either. As I find out more, will let everyone know. Still have had no lockups or resets though.

I think that is a great fix. You are able to use your NX73 and the CF Magic (though by accidental exploration). Some of the best discoveries are by accident though. Anyway, please do post with your results because if it is as you say I will be getting an NX73 and having a few ahem, accidents of my own.

Can't seem to get anything to play with the "Movie Player" program now...and no MP3's...it keeps looking for the Memory Stick..thought I was going to be clever and copied the hidden file "memorystick.ind" over to my CF card thinking maybe it would then think the CF card was a memory stick, not hasn't worked that way yet. I haven't tried any files such as Word/Excel/PP? or JPEG's....The Kimona II producer makes good movies, but as with most of my Kimona experience if I try to touch any buttons to include the volume or happen to breathe at it the wrong way the movie stops playing. Also the usual limitation of about 50 min of video. Anything more than that and you usually get a movie that has partial or no sound, or a movie that will not play. The movies I am converting are from bearshare ( www.bearshare.com ) Usually "Friends", "Star Trek TNG", "Red Dwarf", or Music Video's are what I convert, and they all play just fine. I usually set the Kimona output for 480x320 so it fills the entire screen of the NX73V, and have the sound set for Stereo. Most converted Music Video's are 17-24MB, and the Friends episodes (usually only 22 minutes with no commercials) are about 107-125MB after conversion. With these large file sizes and the $600 price tag of a Sony 1GB MS Pro, I will recommens a new/used CF card from ebay. I got my 1GB IBM Microdrive from ebay over a year ago for $180, so imagine they are even cheaper now...funny thing...a little bit of work and letting you computer download or convert during the day while you are at work, and in a few weeks time you can have a nice library of asst video's to watch, and people are just amazed when they see I'm sitting in Starbucks or similiar watching a full legnth Star Trek episode. The power of the Palm and a little work, your CLIE can do anything.

Another update. My NX73 will now only take pictures and save them on internal memory. It says the MS if full even when it is not. Soft Resets don't help. This is only a mild annoyance for me as once I have taken teh picture I can go to the viewer and select to "move" it to the MS in that manner. As the CF Magic is the only change to my NX73V..I have to find that driver at fault for this. Everything else works ok except what I have mentioned in earlier threads. Also had success in converting Charlie's Angels - Full Throttle over to work on the Kimona player. It is stored on my 1GB IBM MicroDrive..the unusual part is that the avi files started out as 274MB..and ended up being 547MB once it was converted. All other conversions have been smaller once they were in the Kimona format. But sound and video are good quality and the video plays all 149 minutes.
