I'm on the lookout for what is the best Clie out right now that will give the best quality video using Kinoma Player and Producer 2.0

I just recently started tinkering with the settings on Producer for converting movie files to my T665, and I got it to look significantly better than the default settings had (of course the files are now bigger but they look oh so good). I basically went from 15fps with 480 bit rate to 15fps 1200 bit rate. The video is a lot clearer now. I tried to up the FPS to match just slightly more, but it starts to skip if I do. You shoulda seen it at 30fps and 2000 bit rate omg it looked so crisp and clear but it chopped every 2 seconds and the file was very large...

Anyways I tried out a NX70 converted file today, with 'best' fps and 1500 bit rate, and it looked only so-so :( I thoguht it would look a lot better... Is the NX70 not as god as the newer NX's like the 80v and 73v? Because I also tried a TJ35 converted file, using the same 'best' and 1500 bit rate settings, and thoguh it was not wide screen obviosuly, the video was stunninly crisp and clear and did not skip. I was very impressed, because compared to Kinoma's default settings, now I see a significant improvement from my T665 to the TJ35's newer and faster processor. I guess I put that thing to work :)

So! My dilemma now: I wanna know if I should get a TJ35 (I like my T665 better all around, but I'm a multimedia buff and I am a Sony whore sicne I have MS on a lot of things) cuz the video looks real nice... OR should I wait till they come out with a Tungsten T3 competitor (I soooo want virtual grafitti)? Also, I'm tempted to get a 256 or 512mb PRO MS but it won't work on my T665 will it? I have to have a TJ35 or one of the newer Clie's to use a MS PRO, am I right?

Please advise me and share your knowledge! I relaize I am all over the place but I have no one to talk to about this stuff and I'm not sure what I want or should get to have the best quality videos possible :)

A lot depends on the quality of the video, before you convert in IC or Kinoma. I have an NX70 and watch great movies in both formats. Depending on how you converted, the Kinoma will be substantially larger to get a crisp picture. The other issue is the settings for the NX 70 may not be the ones for a TJ35.
If you get an NX 70 or 80, you'll have a CF slot and can use the cheaper card to get a lot more memory.
I'm still playing with my settings but try 24 frames, 640 kbps, and Yamaha in Kinoma. Also make your backgroud black and save it as a custom setting. Play with it from there till you get it the way you like it.

But see I tried a file specifically for the NX 60/70/73/80 and it did not look that good to me on the NX70 I tried it out on. And it was at the 'best' fps and 1500 bit rate. The TJ35 encoded video looked a LOT better. Is there any difference between the processor of the TJ35 and NX70? And how about the NX60 vs 70 vs 73 vs 80?

As much as I love my T665 I want an OS5 Clie but it HAS to give me the best quality video possible or else I can not justify my upgrade completely. :)

I'm just so lost, :D I'm not sure if I should go to an NX (does it matter whcih one? I don't really care for the camera...) or the TJ since its a lot like my T665... OR a UX cuz its fresh and exciting and new.... :D

)You tried a file that you converted and viewed it on an NX 70 and the T665, but liked it on the T665 better? or
2) You viewed a file based on both recommended settings that Sony offers for Clies?
I've never tried to convert a movie until I got my NX 70. I know the picture gets crisper, but at what point were you just increasing the file size, but not getting anything in return except a frame that freezes? How was the quality w/ movement at 15 frames per minute. Might pushing through all that data at those slow frames have created a problem. I'm simply suggesting trial and error, by starting at a lower setting till you know what's going on. I have a very clean and clear picture at the settings I've given you and for a 2hour movie, my file is 432 MB with no pauses. It looks as good as anything I've converted on IC and like with IC I have to play with it to see what would be better.
I think if you had to jump to 2000 in bit rate, you need to re-look at the quality you started with.

As for as NX60 and NX70 we've had both on my job so the NX60 is fine if don't care about the camera. I've never had a UX, but you should probably go to the UX forum to ask about a UX vs an NX 70. I've been tempted by the UX, but I don't want to give up my CF drive. My OS 5 is faster than my previous OS 4.1s, my last being a NR 70 prior to my NX. Additionally I can do a lot more with it in terms of use of CF card and Memory stick. But you're asking about picture quality and I never got into that until now. Are you even able to view a movie on the others w/o swapping out a bunch of memory sticks? Most of the previous models can't take the Pro and movies are too long to view on 128.

I'm not viewing movies I am viewing basically music videos and the like... Some short TV shows, etc. and yes I am looking ytp upgrade to an OS5 Clie, one reason eing so I can take advantage of the MS Pro's so I can fit more on one stick.

I already did trial and errir as far as the quality and bit rate and frame rate settings go, on my T665, a TJ35, and an NX70. Even with the 'best' fps and 1500 bit rate, on the NX70, widescreen, looked kind of blurry and I was not happy with that picture. It did not look bad mind you, just not as good as I would have expected or liked. Yes, my video source file is great, no problem there. And the same file converted for my T665 and for the TJ35, both looked very nice. the TJ35 of course could take the best fps setting, and 1500 bit rate with no problem at all, and it looked very very good, where as my T665 could take a maximum of 1200 bit rate and 15fps (the default) and it looks very good, but not as perfect as the TJ35 did.

If the tests for what you're doing show that your T665 give you better quality, stick with it. But as you said, you can't go MS Pro. Additionally, you can't go CF II card. The NX 70, 80 and NZ90 give you those options for the bigger files. The UX give you the option of MS Pro and a lot of memory. I'd write those forums for video quality, but from reviewing the posts, most of them don't use Kinoma.
Good luck, Bev.
