Just my opinon. I actually had the tj35 for about two weeks i had to take it back to compusa twice. one because the backlight wouldnt come on and the other time was because the jog dial wouldnt work. SO what did i do i traded it back so i could get a tg50 for 50.00 dollars more. And ive been happy since.

Thanks for your experience, but mine is fine and have had no problems. I would say that most people haven't had the problems you have had. I have had mine for two weeks and it is great. I like it more and more everyday. It's much better than the T\E I took back.

thanks

a good number of people have been experiencing defective backlights, so you guys are not alone. Personally mine has been fine so far *knocks on wood* but I extended the warranty to one year just in case.

There is no doubt the TJ35 blows away the TE. I am very impressed with the TJ's solid build, great functionality, 32 megs ram. Who could imagine getting this kind of machine at this price just a short time ago?

I've had my TJ25 for about a month, and it's been great. No problems whatsoever.

:( Maybe there are certain TJ35 with manufacturing lot/serial numbers that are more affected than others.

I'm expecting mine this week....:D

My TJ35 hasn't had any problems (yet).

Without a large enough statistical sample, it's hard to tell whether the failure rate on this product is higher or lower than typical for all PDA's in general.

Are you kidding? THE TE has 32 megs, great functionality, and a much better screen than the dim piece of crap screen on the TJ35. And at 50 bucks less.

Well, Personally, I found the screen on the T/E a bit TOO bright, I like to read e-books in bed, light off and that screen in a dark room is gonna blind you!

Plus I personally woul'd pay the extra just to avoud the awful case on the T/E, horribly plasticky.. ugh

Oh and if the bench mark Speedy is to be believed, my TJ35 benchmarks over twice as fast as the T/E. It certainly felt faster in use than the T/E I Tried.

I can see a lot of people rating the T/E a better value, but for me, I'd rather have quality than quantity

I too am impressed with the TJ35 but unfortunately the unit did not exceed my expectations. The body is solid but the sides are scratch-prone, the screen brightness is a little bit weak, and the software package is rather dull. I upgraded to the TG50 and am happy with it.

Is Sony's $30 rebate on the TJ35 still running?

In any case, it depends on what you like. If you prefer maximum display brightness over battery life, and a usable included stylus, then the T|E is a good choice. But the TJ35 has a CPU that's more than 50% faster than the T|E, a more scratch resistant case, and connector for a serial port keyboard.

I use my own stylus, and usually turn down the display brightness to conserve battery life, so I didn't need these excellent T|E features.

and connector for a serial port keyboard
You got my attention with that - what sort of keyboard is this? I've just moved over to the TJ35 from a Visor Prism (so don't talk to me about screen brightness ;) ) so I need to replace my Targus Stowaway keyboard. What options would this serial connector give me?

Look under accessories for the TJ35 on the sonystyle.com website. There's a T-connector keyboard listed there.

My TJ35 backlight just went dead today after owning it for less than 5 days! I spend 1 hour searching the sympton and found quite a few people have the same problem. Definitely a problem with Sony clie QC. My previous T615c went dead just after 1 year and Sony told me it would cost me $150 to fix it. I just got a TJ35 instead. Maybe I should returned it to Dell and get a TE.

I've got my TJ-25 for about a year and there is no problem with it. It's working perfectly.

TJ-37 here. I initially had a problem with the earphone jack not working. I returned it and received a replacement.

Although the body is a bit scratched since I've dropped it many times -- hardwood, pavement, concrete. Kicked it a few times accidentally, where it falls down and my foot reacts and it goes sailing.

It's been a year so far. I don't take good care of my PDAs.

I have had my TJ25 for over a year now. I have dropped it, reset it only once, installed a keyboard, enjoyed the display in the brighest of outdoors and added so many applications to it; it is an excellent PDA.
