What do people recommend for a secure password database? I have lots of passwords that I need to know for work (ie: admin passwords for servers, etc) for different clients and I need something secure to store them in. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

YAPS (Yet Another Password Safe) is decent -- and FREE. SplashID has HiRes suppport and is highly cool to look at. If you have SmartList To Go (formerly thinkDB), you can design your own database. I use all three... (still in the process of moving everything over to SplashID... so some things are still in YAPS and SmartList). :)

I use SplashID and it's great. The two main features that makes SplashID a better tool are for me:
1) large numeric pad to get fast access to the database (I hate passwords that I have to type/jot in),
2) Good PC desktop tool and synchronization.

Another vote for SplashID.... one nice feature of the desktop is the "copy" icon next to each line in a record. Great for quickly entering webpage passwords.

I like SplashID for the encrypted handheld and desktop apps, for stull that I really don't want to get out, IE: credit card numbers, PINs etc.. Very nice secure feeling having copies both places. I also use Smartlist (absolutely great app) for stuff that is not as sensitive. Smartlist offers several levels of password protection, but not encryption.

I use a program called CrypBox for all my passwords. It tracks just about anything you want and is very customizable. It also has a PC interface and encrypts all the information that is stored. You can find it at www.portableprojects.com. The cost after the trial is $11.95. I've been using it for a few years and have never had a problem with it.

Yet another vote for (drum roll) SplashID. Notice a trend here?

I registered it about the 3rd day. Works well. Secure. Updated at intervals.

I recommend InfoSafe Plus; it's more customizable than SplashID. The Plus version has a desktop component.

I use eWallet and would recommend it to others as well.

I use YAPS too. I looked at SplashID, thought it was pretty good, but was driven away by the ridiculously high price.

$20 is ***way*** too much for a program which does so little. I remember initially paying that much for QuickWord! If the Splash folks would set the price of SplashID to what SplashPhoto was when I bought it ($9.99) I'd buy SplashID too. Until they come down off their cloud, I'll stick with YAPS...

Like another user noted here, I still keep the bulk of my software registration numbers, and other low security information in a SmartList DB. I just keep CC numbers, bank account info, and stuff like that in YAPS. I’m plenty happy with YAPS, and the price beats SplashID by… let’s see… 20 bucks!!!

Does Yaps encrypt the data or merely provide a password-protected access? SmartList's password protection can be broken pretty easily, leaving the data exposed. SplashID (as I understand it) encrypts the data, making it really difficult to get to the contents. If Yaps encrypts as well, then I may have just saved $20! If not, then $20 is cheap security.

Gary,

Yaps implements the following features:
Password protected.
Blowfish encryption (256-bit).
Import and export to Memo.
Automatic lock-out.
Masked or hidden records.
Easy to use.
and many more...

Requires Palm OS 3.0, or higher.

The web page is http://www.msbsoftware.ch/yaps.html

It looks like they have a (shareware) desktop viewer now. Even though that part is shareware (the Palm prog is still free) they're only charging $9 for it.

Oooooh...I didn't know YAPS encrypted too. Looks like I'll give that a try and possibly save my poor *** $20...

One thing I really like in Splash over YAPS (not sure if it's a $20 thrill, but...) is that when you set a category, you can customize what fields will show within that category. YAPS takes a universal approach with fields for each entry, and while that can work, the customization in Splash is really nice if you're storing different info...web site access vs. bank access vs. software codes, etc.

And...it doesn't appear that there's anyway I can get my data from Splash to Yaps because of this (Splash exports .csv, YAPS supposedly imports .csv, but not sure how to do that without a desktop editor for Yaps).

I'd say that's a $10 thrill... ;-)

Anyway, YAPS can import/export from/to Memo Pad. I just exported *to* memo pad, and it looks like the data file is in fact comma delimited.
