View Full Version : 1GB Memory Stick (Not PRO)!?

At Alternate.de, a German online store, they have Memory Sticks, MS Pro and MS Select. They always tell what kind the MS's are. Now I wondered about the 1GB MemoryStick I've seen on their MS list:

http://www4.alternate.de/html/nodes/081131999.html

Look at the Sandisk MS's: They have either 1GB MS Pro and 1GB MS. Would this type of MS fit into Palm OS 4.1 devices (such as the sj33)?

Please, help! I'm totally confused....

I'm guessing the site's wrong - checking SanDisk's website, the only MS products they offer are 128megs and 256meg select. If you find out otherwise though, I'd be interested :)

I've sent them an email. Let's see what they say about this...

The only MS higher than 128 MB are either Pro or Select.

That's what I was sure about before I saw the Sandisk ones...

Those prices are high. I buy from a place in the Channel Islands and I believe they ship to Europe - you might want to try them www.mymemory.co.uk HTH

Memory stick only supports upto 128 MB in a single device. The 256MB Select is two 128MB sticks stuck together with a physical switch.

If you want anything more than 128Mb that doesn't use glue :-) you need to buy a Memory Stick pro, and make sure you have the MS Pro update installed on your Clie...

Yellow...the MS Pro is available as a update on the NX models 60, 70, and NZ90....not upgrade option for the CLIE's with 4.1 OS that I've ever heard. Would be interested in finding a hack/driver to cure that little situation.

ok, I was just wondering (there's still a little hope... :-) )

I imagine there is limitations with the OS 4.1...beyond my expertise..hope someone is able to design a driver in the near future allowing the MS Pro to work with OS 4.1..it would be a shame to have to upgrade to a new unit to have that flexibility.

ok i see how that site is, the colors next to the name tell you whether its available or not basically, red means don't count on getting it, yellow means you'll get it within 3-5 days green means 24 hours, and grey means its special order cause they don't feel like buying it otherwise, and for everything else you either write em a letter or go to germany and pay them a visit and wait in the waiting room (if they have one)

Anyways, they still haven't answered to my email.

ALTERNATE.DE just answered to my 2nd email!

It says:

in English:
The Sandisk 1GB Memory Stick should normally work in non-MSPro-compatible devices. Anyway you should ask at Sony if the SJ-33 supports that size of the stick.

...and this is what I'm gonna do.

Perhaps it's a 8-by-128MB selection?

Even MemoryStick.org lists 128MB as maximum size for MemoryStick. MS Pro, on the other hand, is specified for 32GB maximum size.

Very interesting...

Yello....I would not expect Sony to actually give you the right answer to that question...if the 1GB MS will actually work in non-pro MS devices, then Sony would lose sales as it takes away one reason to upgrade to a newer CLIE..most likely someone will have to purchase and try it...who wants to be the test subject?

Since I am a student, the price is awfully much too high for me...!

funny how a typo can get so many peoples minds racing...

don't expect miracles :)
I'd hope alternate.de is right, but I don't think so

I tried my MS-Pro in a Clie T625C. Doesn't work.

It seems like the the interface needs some rewiring or something for Pro compatibility. "Older" card readers don't work with MS-Pro either.
