Has anyone any ideas of removing the little ring at the top of the unit that holds a strap? I don't have a use for this and I think that this little thing may wear a hole in my pocket as I carry the PDA in my pockets.
Thanks

you would have to take your clie apart to remove it. then you have a hole there instead of that ring

You can disassemble the Clie, remove the ring, carefully grind the ring part off, then re-install it as a plug.
You can TRY to grind/cut it off without disassembly, but better safe than sorry!
I plan to try this in the next couple days. I'll let you know how it turned out!
Does anyone here use it with a strap or something or this a Japanase local preference?

I bought a thumbboard and it comes with a part that attaches to the ring to connect to the thumbboard. Never quite understood why there has to be a strap connecting the two but I have also used my digital camera's hand strap onto my clie. It makes me feel better when I am standing or walking and using the unit.

My SJ30 came with a little lanyard with the unit, but I don't put it on the unit. The lanyard is a great idea for those who use the PDA in congested areas and don't want someone to run and grab their PDA out of their hands. I think that must be Sony's thinking behind the loop on their models and for the Japanese users in trains or buses where it's shoulder to shoulder and standing room only.

I am one of the few who actually use a strap. I have a case that zips completely around so I take my Clie out to use it in the stores. I have two small children and am afraid one day it will get knocked out of my hand. So I keep a camera type strap wrapped around my wrist just in case.
