tommorow i have the oportunity to go buy either a ux50 or a nx80v! should i get the nx80v ux50v or wait for ux80?

no portrait mode kills me not to mention no hard buttons.

the only problem i have with nx80 is size.

will all my old n760c programs work on them?

Sony denied the existance of that model, didn't they?
http://www.brighthand.com/article/Sony_Denies_New_UX_Series_Model

Also, the author of the pic admitted that it was a fake...

Anyway, just to let you know that it looks like a UX80 is not coming soon. :)

I had the UX50 and returned it for the NX80. I am muc happier with the NX for what I do with it. The screen is much brighter especially outdoors. I couldn't even tell if the backlight was on or off on the UX50 outside in the sun. If you need the integrated bluetooth go with the UX. Otherwise I would recommend the 80 with the CF WiFi card. Just my opinion, but that's what you asked for right?

Hehe. :P Sorry, wanted to help the "looker" :D

For the record...I love my UX. I had an NX80 for a while, but it was way too heavy and felt kinda flimsy when I had to set it down on things. The NX80 I couldn't even hold in my hand for very long 'cause it would hurt. Compare the weights and you'll see what I mean. Make sure you hold the two devices and play with them in your hands before you choose. I find that helps a bit. If you plan on carrying it in your pocket, see if they'll let you try this out too. I've found this helps with seeing how easy it will be for you to carry it around.

The UX50 has a small screen...and I'd rather that as it's worst problem. The WiFi is great, and if you plan on surfing/emailing/etc, it will serve you muchly.

I haven't had a problem with the UX50 outside yet, but since I'm mostly indoors this wouldn't matter too much.

Anyway, here finishes a session of random comments from GetSource. If you'd like any more specific info, feel free to ask! :)

Just wanted to add that the only other thing I miss from the NX80 is the camera...It did do quite a good job with pictures. However, I find that the camera on the UX50 is enough for "random pictures," for me. I use a different digital camera as my primary.

Imo, the UX50 screen is small, but it's the combination of the larger border, that makes it too small. It doesn't fit my gaming

If you choose the UX50 (both UX50 and NX80 are great choices) you will find that not only will you not miss the portrait mode, you will wonder why anyone would want it. Initially I think the portrait mode was Apple's idea being analogous to a pen and paper notebook. Electronic ink, in a way. But basically turned into a compromise to fit the form factor of a PDA. For Palms, until virtual grafitti, this wasn't even an issue. But with the advent of High-Res+ only a landscape device can truly take advantage of it. Word Processing, spreadsheets, mail and web browsing etc. all benefit greatly from a landscape screen. Portrait works fine for PIM functionality, but these modern handheld computers are expected to do so much more.

The UX50 definitely isn't a game machine, and if this is very important to you by all means get an NX80, although even games are often better suited to landscape.

As these devices become fully functional computers they need the display to match, and that means landscape capabilities. A portrait device needs to have landscape functionality, but in my opinion there is no real reason for a landscape device to bother with portrait. If there is a real necessity it can be handled in the software,as in the case of e-book readers and photo viewing apps.

Once you see netfront working in the wide screen you will never go back to NX.
Also Word prossesing!!!!! Your formating is like your pc because you can fit the whole page width in the screen.
And the keyboard is amazing for its size, very fast input with little effort.
The external battery is very usable if you plan a lot of wireless and many days away.
Also the internal storage means that your apps stay there even when you change Memory sticks wich means that they can only be used for media storage.
It excellent and the screen smaller but more usable and very very clear, Can display more information!!!!!
Ux is amazing i can whatever i used to do with my laptop!!!

you can view websites on the UX but you cant make them...

there was a funny thing on slashdot in retaliation to an article about how PDAs were dead and smart phones were the future.. it said something like..

smart phones can do much of what a handheld can therfore we can say that the handheld is dead.
handhelds can do much of what notebooks can therefore we can say that the notebook is dead.
notebooks can do much of what desktop machines can do so we can say that the PC is dead and all one needs to survive nowdays is a smart phone!

I'm stuck on my UX and my UX is stuck on me!! My only problem is when I take it to meetings. Not much gets done when I start using the UX-50!

well im off to get one of them in 5 hours.

do you guys know if the nx has a portrait mode. Does picture viewing look ok on the ux?

I DONT KNOW!!! AHHHH! THERE BOTH SO DAMN GOOD! if that nx80 were only a little smaller! thats is the only thing keeping me from snagging it.

ONE MORE EXTREMLY IMPORTANT THING. on ym n706c the graffiti was below the screen. where is it on the ux..........

The virtual graffiti on the UX can be set on either the left or right side.

I dunno, photos are landscape so opening them on the UX DEFAULT mode it fits perfect.. and if its taken vertically then do an analogue rotate.. I dont know if the default opening position for a NX but it would suck if it required a software rotation each time to get it to fill the screen.. oh it would suck so bad..

I dunno if I care for the portrait mode. I love the landscape mode, I know I do. The UX-50 is awesome.

I agree -- now that I've worked with landscape for a while, portrait mode seems ...odd.

Both have pros and cons. NX is better for games since there are programs out there that takes advantage of portrait mode...games like Billiards and Warfare. UX is better for surfing the web with Netfront in landscape mode. If you decide, remember not to fall into the trap of , "The grass is greener on the other side..." I'm still testing both and still undecided.

excuse me Katsu but Billiards and Warfare work on the UX in wide screen mode so have you got anything else to add to the list of UX cant dos?

Like all the other UX owners, I love my UX50 and I'm very much used to the wide screen mode and I do not miss the portrait mode.

I happen to like the photo's in UX better than my portrait 615C. But that's just my opinion.
